Shot a button buck this morning at about 9:30AM. Hope you all made meat as well.
I had decided not to shoot unless it was a mature doe or decent buck until the rut was on, but I was squirrel hunting and saw this one feeding my way. Knelt down and waited, just to see how close he would come.
At 8 yards, I remembered how good young deer loin is. He ran about 30 yards with no heart. Amazing.
This is Dennis. Way to go John. Are you gonna have him mounted?
I saw nine this morning. I was on the edge of a big corn field, walked in along the edge of a beanfield, and the woods was full of pin oak acorns. There were squirrells and deer everywhere back in there. Finally a doe came my way and I got a 15yd shot and went right over her back There seems to be a lot of sign up there this year. It's gonna be good. DEN
Wanted to go squirrel hunting yesterday, so did with a m/loader. Saw lots of deer too. Probably go bowhunting in couple of weeks. Seeing lots of tree rats as well. Used a trade gun that I built 5 years ago but have not used much. Used a barrel from an 870 Rem Full Choke. Shot pattern was a bit low. Not getting as good a kill as I would like to, so brought it home and took the barrel off and gave it a bit of bending. Will pattern next weekend again. Still too many leaves on the trees to suit me.

"This is Dennis. Way to go John. Are you gonna have him mounted?".........naw, just shaking hands.
Dan, I didn't take any pictures. However, the act of trying to explain to the guy from India that an "anterless" deer and a doe are the same thing for tag purposes was very interesting to say the least.
Good job! I shot a 7pt on Sunday evening, so I'm doe hunting from here on out. Wasn't going to shoot him, but he kept coming back and finally offered a 5 yard quartering away shot. With limited hunting time this year, it was too much to pass up! Went a total of zero yards. Thru the spine and into the lungs. Second arrow sealed the deal quickly. Good luck to everyone else. Going to take my 8 year old out with his long bow. If he gets one less than 10 yards, I'm certain that he can put one behind the shoulder.
