Boys, I shot a big bodied but small racked 8 pointer last Saturday. Wanted a doe but you know how it goes sometimes. Anyhoo, after a 120 yd drag I reminded myself that I really need to get a deer cart. Getting way too old for draggin' 'em. I looked around and settled on this one

The Boy and I went out this morning and hauled our gear out in it. Left it along the bean filed for hopefully later use. Well, the woods were dead today, no deer sightings and only one shot , maybe a half mile away. We headed out at 11: 30 to get home for turkey dinner. I really wanted to try the cart out so looking at the Boy I thought "he's about the size of a fat doe, get in" The cart pulls or pushes like a dream. Came to a log and the axles flipped over just like they were designed to. I believe it's gonna be a good one.

I can see times when a cart would be good, (nice trail back in) but for most of my hunting, they would be totally useless. I found the best way is just hike out all your gear, store in truck, and return with an empty backpack, knife, saw (to remove rack), and your bow. Never know, might run into trouble :) . Then just bone deer out. You rarely wind up with more than 50# which is easily hauled in a regular hunting pack. Everybody has their own system, for their own hunting sites though. Steep, densely wooded woods with briers, blowdowns, and generally rough terrain aint worth a damn for any cart.
That's where our problem was in IN till a couple years ago Randy... we had to bring them out whole to a check in station...
I've had my NxtShot versa cart in some pretty hairy places, brier's, blowdowns and what not and she plows right through and over like a champ... hard tires so no blowouts... angled wheels on hillsides which help a bit... on a mountainside your pretty screwed... but for around here I've not had it too steep yet...
I've watched some of those videos where they bone them out and carry out in an alice pack... might open up some new areas to hunt in the forestry that I've avoided in the past now that we can electronically check in and bone one out...
