nut report

What are they cutting boys.

Checked Floyd CCC last weekend and the pignuts at the start of the trail had a few on the ground but nothing been touched.

Beech nuts are nonexistent at that spot.disbelief

Buddy of mine that owns a big farm drove around to all his early cutting hickories and said their loaded but none have been hit.no

Walnuts behind my fence have no activity that I can see. I'll go across the street and check the graveyard that's loaded with big oaks but I think it's too early for that.

I'll tell you one thing, my yard is always got SQ's in it and I've grown Maters for 40 years there, and I can only remember one other year when they've gone after my fruits.

This year they are tryin to beat me to every ripe one.furious

It's gettin close now gentlemen. Update.

I got up very early yesterday morning. It's a bad habit that I cant break.blankstare

Anyways I was over at the creek at daylight with my sunroof and windows open, just listening. Didn't see or hear a thing, even with a loaded shagbark right near by.

Drove down the road to the big city park and started seein tree rats right away. I saw at least six in the road driving the loop. I found what their eating.

Here's what's odd. Every SQ I seen was on the edge of the road eatin the seeds out of last years sweet gum balls. Old dried up gumballs.no

Jim told me that everyone he's talkin to says they aint cuttin no nut trees even though there seems to be plenty of nuts.

Unless things change soon it might be an odd opening day.confuse

Instead of SQ's scattered and eatin a bunch of things I'll bet they will be real concentrated on certain things.

I did see one up in one of the walnuts behind me fence. I walked back there to see and I heard a big ol walnut plop the ground.wink

Scouted one of my usual spots today. Only found one grey just sampling a hickory and a fox coming out of a corn field. Does not look too promising for opening day. This time last year, several trees were already cleaned out.
