Buzzards!

I found these guys in the hay loft of an old abandoned barn today.  They made a hissing sound that almost sounded like a growl.  We left them alone and got out of there before momma came back to check on them.

Do you know which species ? Those new invasive ones from Mexico need exterminating ! Bad news predators. Killing lots of livestock here in KY.

I have no idea what species they are.  I think they are protected under the migratory bird act.  Probably a hefty fine for killing them.  There were some good wing feathers  laying in the loft.  I wanted to take them for fletching but I don't think you can possess the feathers either.  That's kind of a dumb law in my opinion.  If I find a feather laying on the ground I should be able to use it for something.

In KY you can legally kill the new invasive species, but not the turkey vulture.

Jonathan, I really don't think you can put both feet on the floor anymore without breaking a law. I imagine the KY farmers will adopt the same program of western ranchers involving wolves: Shoot - Shovel - Shut-up

You got that right John... and can't say as I'd blame them if they do...
