Recurve Un-Aided (RU). A recurve or longbow shot with fingers directly contacting the bowstring using a glove, finger tab, or bare fingers. No sighting device of any kind may be used. A rest and plunger are all that may reside within the sight window of the bow. A limb mounted draw check or clicker may be used. There shall be NO markings on the bow or bowstring (intentional or accidental) that could be construed as sighting marks. All arrows shall be of the same material and be of uniform length and weight. String walking and face walking are permitted.
For those members that do not already know or wasn't able to make the meeting today, I brought up a motion to add another class to our club. It would be a RU (Recurve Un-Aided) class. The rules are posted above, they come straight from the IBO (International Bowhunters Organization) website. I feel that this would maybe bring some new faces to our club and some opportunities to try something different for our members. I know I'm gonna have some mixed feelings over this but I feel that this would be good for our club to try. I travel all over this great country shooting my bow and there is quite a few people that shoot this class, there has even been a rumor going around that there will be a women's RU class at the trad worlds next year so it seems to be growing in popularity. I will appreciate any input on this good or bad. Feel free to call, text or email me with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your time.

Seperate class ? looks to me like its already covered. This would only be needed if they had a class for sights, which im pretty sure they dont. Unless ITBA has restrictions on the arrow rests, you are describing what they already have.
as our rules stand right now, we have no restrictions on arrow rests. this topic will be discussed and researched for a vote, possibly at our first shoot in jan. any opinions and views will be appreciated.
Not to be disagreeable Dave but I do believe they do... not that I care one way or another...
but in section 7B of the rules on the main website it says no plungers, mechanical rests or stabilizers... see below as copied directly from the list...
7. Equipment Restrictions.
A. No Compounds.
B. No wheels, cams, plungers, mechanical rests, or stabalizers.
Most all of the RU shooters at the IBO shoots will be shooting a plunger, mechanical rest... (albeit pretty simple wire that swings away and swings back) and a stabilizer...
My thinking on this is that a class that would allow people to be able to shoot how ever their bow is set up, out side of our rules , would cover most people that would want to shoot there. Still no wheels, sights, or stabilizers , though. It doesn't have to be set up exactly like IBO . The class could be pretty open, hence " OPEN CLASS " . They would have their own Top Shooter competition at the end of the year. This way no toes get stepped on. I have all ready heard that some of our existing members might like to play around in a new class.
Again... I don't care one way or another... but the plunger does make a world of difference in forgiveness when shooting against bows that are shooting off the shelf...
I'd asked about this a while back 2 or 3 years ago, as there were some guys off Tradtalk that were looking for another shoot in the area when the IBO 1st Leg of the Triple Crown was at Bedford... I'd asked about it for some of them that shoot RU and had several club members that were pretty vocal against it...
Can't for the life of me find that thread though...
Again, I could care less... run what you bring... I just hope to even be able to shoot in enough shoots (5) to qualify for the best of the best one year... LOL Then we have to worry about the scoring... HA!
Like Twig, it wouldnt matter to me, and me not being a member, and rarely ever getting to shoot at ITBA,I really dont have a say, but why so many classes ? It can get out of hand, and with
a club and shoots of less than say several hundred participants, you are gonna wind up most of the time with but one person in a class. Very few use mechanical rests, I cant see that it would make that much of a difference. Sometimes, some people ,just have to bend to the rules ,instead of against them. and accept them for what they already are. Get a plastic stick on rest, shoot, and have fun. If someone outshoots you, or you outshoot them, I seriously doubt a mechanical rest would have made the difference
