How do you remove gunk from a bow?

I have a set of rec. limbs that had some velcro strips on the curve to soften string slap. What do you use to get the residual gunk off the limb after removing the velcro?

I use just plain old mineral spirits and some elbow grease. You can use acetone on paint etc but not sure if it will cut adhesive.
