I just bought a used shakespear recurve at a yard sale and I need to get a string for it. It's marked 58 AMO 40# on the riser. I did some looking online but it seems that some say 3" shorter then amo while others say 4" shorter. Another forum recommended 60X and I found their strings here http://www.60xcustomstrings.com/recurve/ but I want to make sure I order the correct string for my bow. Thanks for any help.
If the old string is on it just measure it, if not order one 3" shorter than the AMO (55") but order a Flemish twist string. Prettier and better than an endless string. Now if you need to brace the bow higher to tune it you can twist it up to what you need. There are tons of places to get strings, Lancaster Archery, Three Rivers, Kustom King or you can have someone make you one if you can find someone well versed in Trad archery. That bow will not be Fast Flight capable so you want a B50 Dacron string. The endless strings will be cheaper but that's not what you want, get a Flemish Twist.

my string jig is marked off in AMO lengths, whatever the AMO is it will make the string the right length. If you order a string just tell them what you told us, 58" AMO, 40#, and you should get the right one, and it should wind up being 54". Take Stringwax up on his offer, but invest a little money on materials ,jig, and server and never have to hunt for a string again. They cost but pennies to make once you get setup.
