Hey Todd. The ladies are gonna provide the standard fare for lunch Saturday. Then their gonna come back and provide a lasagne dinner. I think supper will be around $5.00. I think their also gonna have a chicken fettechini for those on a restricted diet.
That leaves Fri night where they usually go to town for Chinee. Sat morning breakfast, and Sun breakfast. Strang is gonna cook Gills sometime. Maybe lunch fri.
They said anyone that wants to bring a dessert for sat is welcome.
Last year we didn't have enough participation and Dave went to town and bought Papa John.
Well.......... I am going to pull the trigger and be the bad guy here. I am concerned that the club picking up the food tab is a burden that we do not need to take on . The money can be better be spent somewhere else. If we have a large turn out it could be a disaster. financially. I myself expect to pay for my food and I think most people will agree. SOUND OFF ! Am I the only one that feels this way.
i will pay for mine dale, happily to do so. but the club offered to pick up the tab, and will make up the difference for those who dont feel like paying for their dinner..
Drew and I will be happy to pay for ours as well. Looking forward to it. The NASP shoots at school have cut into our time at the club shoots. The kid is ready for the trade blanket.
Instead of a pitch in dinner that in the past hasn't went that well it was decided that we would ask the ladies that have been providing lunch to come back and fix dinner.
When we had the pitch in it was a monumental task to get everything ready to serve. The hot food needed to be warmed up, the cold stuff needed to be kept cold. We had wives volunteer to help out and sometimes it worked out ok.
Last year we didn't get quite as much interest and Dave had to go to town and buy pizzas so everyone got something.
The ladies said they would provide a delicious lasanga dinner with possible salad and bread for $5.00. This will be a great thing for us.
We all get to sit down and have a dinner together and dont have to worry about bringing something or running out of anything.
As far as the cost we have already paid for it thru membership and entry fees. We are doing pretty good finance wise and this is a way for the club to pat ourselves on the back.
It will also leave more time for the officers to tell lies and swap knives around the campfire instead of organizing and serving food for 50 or more.
We will probably all eat dinner at an appointed time and trying to make change and count quarters would be a lot more difficult and slow the entire process down
With the expense of spending the weekend having a great time shooting with your pals and staying for two or three days it will be nice to eat free Sat. night.
Anyone that wants to donate some money to the ladies and their organization would be very welcome and would reflect the quality of the people in our little club.
I'm not an officer anymore but I agree with Dale! you really can't beat it for 5 bucks anyway and what will 5 bucks get you at Cloverdale? Why don't we just pay for our own and let the club use the money for targets and such!
If the club is going to pay for some meals we should pay for everyones meals. My concern is that we went through a time when the club could not afford nice targets and we all know where that got us. We are back on track now and I would like to see us stay there. It is a nice gesture. I remember a 2 day when we had 130 shooters not to mention the ones that came and did not shoot. We could be looking at $ 500.00 to $ 600.00 or more. Guess I should have kept my mouth shut. SORRY !!!
Dale, Todd, guys. Don't ever be sorry for stating your opinion on club matters. Everyones is valuable and helps guide this club into the future.
Dale I remember those times of crappy targets. It wasn't so much lack of funds but it was bad business and poor understanding of what people wanted.
I remember meetings where it was suggested we buy 6 groundhogs, 4 coons, and three cats. And let's buy a mosquito for our big target.
The numbers dwindled and the profits dried up. Enough members spoke up and things changed.
We had a compleat change of philosophy. And things turned around. More people can't wait to come back the next shoot. More new ones find us and bring their friends.
We found out buying a big expensive Rhinehart is not a waste of money when you could have just bought a coon. Great targets are an investment in the future.
That's kind of like this free dinner. Todd said it best about Cloverdale. You spend a bunch of time and money driving up there and camping. Pay big bucks to shoot, and then they want $15.00 for lunch.
This free dinner is an investment in the club. How many might stick around for a free dinner. Maybe they will bring a friend or family member that might come back. Good will always pays off.
We've been lied to by the gov so much about economics that their sometimes hard to understand. I hope we have to payout $2000.00 in free lasang cause that means that we've potentially taken in $8000.00.
There are many more benefits that cant be counted. How many new members? How many will definatly plan on being there next two day? Perhaps a kid will decide to start hangin with Dad on Saturdays.
Anyway if this idea dosent work out we can always drop it for next time.
I've got to get back to plantin maters. That's a risky investment also but I know what I'll get if I don't plant anything
In my view, 60- 70 people sticking around for dinner would be a good thing. Years ago I worked on commission. My employer was cutting me some mighty big checks for back in those days. Upwards of $2000 per check. Yes I was putting in long hours but since I was on a percentage I enjoyed making the big money. The way the commission worked ,if he paid me 2 grand he made two grand himself. Well he got greedy and figured he'd put me on hourly and keep more of the money. I asked him if he really thought I'd work as hard or put in as many hours under the new arrangement but he was not smart enough to figure it out. The damn fool should have been happy writing me checks for 10 grand ! Anyway, there's the moral of the story, which is better, 10 people for dinner or 100 ?

Hee hee John. We wouldn't put anything in a salad that would cause problems for uhmm.... er.... our more bicuspid challenged members.
Anyway if enough people tell Dave it's a bad idea then he might change his mind. That's his job as prez. And I don't know of anyone that works harder, and cares more about the club.
I'm neutral on it if the decision is based on facts.
FACTS IS.
At this point we are rich in good targets. We are gonna have a hard time deciding on what to buy next year. And we have about half a year and our two biggest shoots to come.
This money is not lost. Your buying dinner for one of your Bros. All setting down together for dinner is good and could only build a stronger club.
And lastly I don't believe in charity. FOR ME that is. The ladies that have been doing the meals have been a blessing for our club. And they do desperately needed work for the community.
It's a win/win situation.
Money is always a consideration but what we do with it is the main thing. That is always investing in the future.
Ok,guys you have convinced me. I withdraw my complaint. Sometimes a little discussion can bring a better light on the subject. Thanks den den, good point.
We need to make sure and get the word out on the meal so folks stay around and don't wander off. Maybe a sign at the sign in table telling about it. I think it's a fine idea. Before I'd stop and buy a pie or something for the meal or dutch oven something. I'd just like to shoot , both bows and s***, and enjoy the day and weekend. My biggest problem now is finding something for that Boy and I to use on the trade blanket.
