Well, the day I have been dreading coming here came today. I got my notice from my insurance carrier. For the past several months I have been listening to the Obama Administration tell me how good this is gonna be. I'd save $2000 a year he said. I have friends and acquaintances who are huge Obama supporters, and they too tried to sell me on how good it would be. Well, I'm sure I'm not the only person in the world who is getting this letter and I'm pretty sure if it can happe...n to me it can also happen to YOU. My current rate is $340 a month with a $5000 deductible. My new rate---- $708.88 per month with a $5000 deductible. The simple truth is I cannot afford it. Period, end of sentence. I will go without insurance. Remember the name "The Affordable Care Act " How about one of you Obama supporters explain that one to me. Anyone ? I've worked my ass off my whole life to get ahead and a small piece of the American Pie and this **** comes along. This is a clusterf*** and I can only blame it on those who caused it. They can't hide and they can't deny they done it. Oh, by the way, the notice came with over 100 pages of what they call simple language, explaining my policy. Are you ****ting me ? 100 pages. I'm covered for **** that biologically cannot happen to me. Ain't it great. I had good insurance, not great, just good. I did not need this "Affordable Care Act" I really didn't, but now it's being foisted upon me, against my will and I will not participate. I can't. I can't "Afford " it. Some of you will be getting the same type of letter I just got. If you fought against it, God Bless, if you supported it, be careful what you wish for. I'm in damn good health for now and it happened to me. And some of you wonder why I feel about this Administration like I do ? Figure it out Rocket Scientist. This Country is messed up Big Time.

Since you're self employed and pay estimated quarterly tax, instead of yearly, you get it up the arse for the "Penalty tax" THIS year, instead of next.
I've spent an hour trying to find the quote, Tim, but it's not on the net. Benjamin Franklin wrote under one of his many pseudonyms a paper about the proposed British stamp tax. The king wanted us to pay a tax on tea, AND THEY WANTED US TO PAY FOR PRINTING THE STAMPS!
Franklin wrote---much more eloquently than I--"We British propose to run a red hot poker up your arse, and we require you to pay for the coal to heat it"
Not at all surprised. Its amazing to me that these liberals think the wave of a magic wand by some president will turn everything into rainbows and unicorns. There is no free lunch. To give to one, you must take from another. The ones recieving had nothing to lose, the ones that were responsible hardworking people are the ones that get taken. Expect Hillary from the next election, and even more of the same.
IT'S so easy for us to see and point out what's wrong with our government, but none of us has the stones to suggest we DO SOMETHING about it. I will start.
Alert the NSA, John says:
Jose, what's it like out in the field ? Any of the older docs, such as yourself, plan on just getting out ? Or what ?

His portion got to be way too high, and I felt I had to quit paying for his family coverage and only pay the employee portion.
When we got our latest group billing it had increased tremendously on his family.
All my other guys are single. So no family coverage. Everyones increased but not to the extent of his.
I was willing to make adjustments in hourly wage for him to try and help with the cost but he decided it was in his best interest to seek other employment.
You will never convince me that the drastic increase in our group rate was due to any other reason than the ACA.
BTW I have a job opening for a Mastercam programmer/ wire machine operator. 2 years experience required.
retirement plan, paid holidays, 4 day work week, 2 weeks paid vacation after one year. competitive hourly wage per experience level, Employee only insurance.
Glad we have the edit feature

I don't know how it's going to shake out for me yet. We have a young elder at our church who owns an insurance agency and I met with him this morning. He thinks I may qualify for a subsidy of some amount to help lower the $700/mo some, not sure how much. Here's my rub with it-- I have insurance , not great but OK insurance.$320 /mo with a $5g deductible. But being a small business owner I sort of got it that I would not have an employer helping out on it.But then along comes the Kenya Health Plan and suddenly I see my rate go to $700. But this was his plan all along. Get the rates so high that folks could only afford it with a subsidy. Now to pay for the subsidy they stick it into the young folks and break it off (like Mann's guy). The young agent helping me said his has gone up 300%. He's never been to a doctor for other than a physical . He feels as I do that the whole thing will fall like a house of cards because not enough young people will sign up. Why would they ? As in his case he can spend upwards of $8000 to 10,000 a year on premiums and the first time he needs it for something he pays the first $6000 !! It won't work. Period. But as I have said before I think it was planned to fail from the git go and when it does they step in with the Single Payer idea. I am tempted to post a sign on my wall notifying customers that I am adding an Obamcare surcharge to all invoices to cover my increase. It's a cost of doing business just like electricity or my gas bill. I'm just getting crusty enough to do it.

Yes, Tim, there is going to be mass exodus of physicians. A lot of older doctors that were in solo practices are either going to retire or hire themselves to hospitals or big groups corporations. There will be a relative shortage of physicians in the short term because of all the "new people" that are being added to the insured pool, but in a few years there will be a real shortage when the baby boomers physicians start retiring. The aggravating factor is that we don't know how the new state of affairs is going to influence the new generation regarding enrollment in medical school if they can't see a good future in it. Like the blind man said: we will see!

My own Doc who is a couple years older than me, told me he's just watching it unfold right now but said if he can't make as much an income as he has ,he'll just retire. Why wouldn't he .
