Fri. afternoon me and Tommy went to the Comptons gathering in Lou. Ky.
When we went in they asked us if we were members and I said no we belong to the ITBA. They said oh we know David and Drew.
We actually went to see OL JR and Redtail's,Bear collections. Very nice indeed.
I talked to many good people and had a fine time. They seem to be a great club if anyone is interested in joining.
Sat. was our shoot and the weather couldn't have been nicer. We had around 50 shooters and everyone had a great time.
There were a few regulars that couldn't be there due to other commitments. We missed you and hope to see you at the April Blanket shoot.
This morning me and Dos Ronaldos went to the big NFAA shoot in downtown Lou. It was real culture shock.
We went to it a couple years ago and it amazes me how fast technology moves along. Tons of things to look at and wonder about.
If I was gonna make a modern bow I would pick it's name off the element chart and then something from outer space.
Something like The Boron Quasar or the Tantulum Comet.
Lots of things to improve shooting. You can't argue with success though cause I saw a lot of targets that had one ragged hole in the bullseye.
Another trend I noticed was a lot of shooters were dressed in psycodelic clothing. It was a very colorful affair.
I'm gonna tell Jim cause I think he still has some of his Greatfull Dead clothes.
I didn't count them all but I estimate there were 10,000 shooters there. A bunch of familys and kids. That's a good thing.
One thing I noticed different this year was several fellows shooting old fashioned long bows.
There were always those fancy Olympic recurves and it seemed like more shooters were using those too.
We talked to a guy that said last year they started a class for longbows. He was a very friendly fellow from Canada. We talked to him a long time.
He has a big archery tournament every year in Aug. up in Ontario. He really does it up right and donates the money made to the Childrens Hosp.
He really want's us to come to it sometime and it sounds like lot's of fun.
I couldn't help but to think that we might wind up being one of the attractions ... The Travelling Hillbilies or something.
Kind of like them dogs that play frisbee or them squirrels that water ski.
Anaway we had a real good time and it's all archery after all. It was good to see that much interest.
The only bad thing was there was some dang umpire on a tall stand in the middle of the place that kept blowin a real loud whistle.
Everytime he'd blow that thing I would flinch and a serious pain would shoot thru my bad back. I was gonna go up there and take that dang thing away from him but Ron held me back'
Compton show was a Great experince for Steve and I went very well Now looking forword to Professional Bowhunter Sociatys Show in Cincinatti last of Month Still the Nice Weather Sat and all we Really Missed being @ ITBA Our Happy Place !!!
I really missed being at the club this weekend I thought of all you guys standing on top of that mountain in Kentucky though I did fair really well still not the ITBA
Drew and I spent the weekend at the Compton event, had a great time. Nice crowd on Saturday and the banquet was really nice. Wish I'd have thought ahead and brought our bows so we coulda drove up and shot Saturday morning. I know that by our nature as being a bunch of old grumpy guys, we tend not to join organizations, but Compton is really a good group and they speak up on a national level for traditional archery. They do lots of good things, especially with kids and trying to get more youth involved.
