The Indiana State Department of Health has been collecting babies blood and DNA without their parents permission since 1991, according to an investigation by a local news station.

Now the state wants to know what to do with the blood samples.

According to the Hill, Harry Reid then added that lawmakers should worry less about securing the border and instead focus on approving President Barack Obamas $3.7 billion request to process the thousands of children who have flocked to the U.S. illegally from Central America.

Reids comments were met immediately with criticism from the right. Prominent conservative pundit Charles Krauthammer even questioned his mental health on Fox News.

When you hear Harry Reid saying the border is secure you got to wonder, you know, whether hes on his medication or not. That is so detached from reality, Krauthammer said.

EXCLUSIVE: RINCON PENINSULA, Texas -- U.S. Border Patrol agents on the American side of the Rio Grande were forced to take cover Friday night when high-caliber weaponry was fired at them from the Mexican side of the river, sources told FoxNews.com.

The weapons were fired at the U.S. side of the riverbank in the area of the Rincon Peninsula across the Rio Grande from Reynosa, Mexico, at about 8:30 p.m., sources said. Bullets ricocheted into an area where Border Patrol agents were positioned, Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, told FoxNews.com.

Border Patrol sources confirmed Gohmert's account, and said the shots may have been fired by .50-caliber weapons.

"We don't have any armor that can stop a .50-caliber round, so our Border Patrol agents had to take cover when the rounds were richocheting around them," said Gohmert, who has been in the area for the last week to get a first-hand look at the border situation.

"When the shooting stopped, about 40 to 50 people came out on the U.S. side and turned themselves in. So clearly the rounds were being fired to suppress every effort to stop anybody intervening with anyone or anything coming across," Gohmert added. "We have no idea what or how many or whom came across with the other illegal immigrants."

Sources said they believe the gunfire came from members of Mexican drug cartels, which include former military members trained in shooting that type of weaponry.

Border Patrol sources said the rounds were clearly identifiable because .50- caliber weapons make a distinctive noise when fired. Sources said they also believe this is the first time that Border Patrol agents have taken direct fire from the Mexican side of the river in this area.

"I don't know why we're out here like sitting ducks," one Border Patrol source said. "We need help."

As of Saturday evening, a Border Patrol spokesman did not immediately return FoxNews.com's request for comment.

The Rio Grande sector has been the busiest part of the 2,000-mile border with Texas in recent months as a surge of illegal immigrants, many from Central America, has poured in to the U.S. in the mistaken belief that U.S. policy allows for them to remain in America once they make it in. More than 60,000 unaccompanied children had crossed in the last nine months. But Border Patrol officials have warned that the deluge has left the border largely unattended, and vulnerable to cartel infiltration.

The city of Medina, Wash. says it wont be paying for President Obamas Tuesday evening fundraising visit.

According to Medina City Manager Mike Sauerwein, prior presidential visits have cost local residents as much as $35,000 due to security related issues; but not anymore.

We love welcoming people to what we think is one of the most attractive communities in Puget Sound, Sauerwein told Komo 4 News. We just dont feel that we should be passing the costs of the events to our citizens.

Sauerwein says the bill will instead be sent to former Costco CEO Jim Sinegal, the host of the Presidents $25,000 per plate Democratic fundraiser.

We are going to be billing the host of the event for that cost, Sauerwein said.

The decision to bill Sinegal was made by City Council members last Monday after police overtime costs were taken into account.

Other police departments have absorbed the costs of these visits, Sauerwein said. But we dont think thats right.

The city, which brought in officers from the King County Sheriffs Office as well as the State Patrol, says it is still calculating how much was spent on the visit.

Sinegal, who has long praised the President for his immigration and economic policies, has yet to comment on the citys decision.

While Wash. state Democrats call Medinas decision to charge Sinegal politically motivated, the idea is likely to catch on with cities across the country.

One Mexican police officer is dead and another is in stable condition after unknown attackers shot at them Wednesday on the Mexican side of the U.S. border near El Paso, Texas. During the incident, three other Mexican officers entered into the States and ended up in American custody.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin mocked President Obamas condemnation of corporations leaving the United States for better tax rates overseas, exclaiming Wow, all of a sudden borders matter!

Levin spoke Thursday with Fox News Neil Cavuto about the presidents recent push to shame American companies for moving abroad in search of less-punitive tax rates than those found in the United States.
