Barack Obama APOLOGIZED to Cuban president Raul Castro during their phone conversation after the American commander in chief's opening remarks. Speaking to reporters at his final White House press briefing of 2014 Friday afternoon, Obama gave more details about his phone call with the communist leader of Cuba earlier this week before the announcement of a change in U.S. policy on the Caribbean island nation.

Obama began the phone call with Castro with what he described as 15 minutes of opening comments. It was the first conversation between the heads of state in both countries since 1961.

"I apologized for taking such a long time," Obama said. Castro responded by reminding Obama that the American president was still young enough to beat Castro's brother, former Cuban president and revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, who once gave a 7-hour-long speech.

According to the president, Raul Castro proceeded to speak to Obama uninterrupted for 30 minutes.

What do porn, pistols and Ponzi schemes have in common? They are all targets of Operation Choke Point, an Obama administration initiative that is the very picture of a selectively oppressive and overreaching government.

A program of the Justice Department, Operation Choke Point is the functional equivalent of a mafia extortion racket, using abusive federal regulatory authority to coerce banks and other financial institutions into withholding financial services from companies in industries that are out of favor with the administration, including the firearms and ammunition industries.

Operation Choke Point is among the more frightening threats to liberty of late because it relies on strong-arm government tactics to erode our rights under the 2nd Amendment by specifically attacking gun stores and sellers of ammunition.

The mechanics are straightforward. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) came up with a list of industries considered to be high-risk for fraud and then pressured banks to end their relationships with targeted businesses within these industries. Because the FDIC is the primary regulator for some 4,500 financial institutions, its authority is forged into a bludgeon to threaten banks with a choice; stop doing business with gun stores and ammo sellers, or else. Tony Soprano would be proud of such a business model.

These high-risk industries were not arbitrarily chosen. They were specifically selected by the administration because starving them of financial services serves its political agenda. The nation is not in the mood, politically or legislatively, for gun control so the Obama administration uses Operation Choke Point as a way to enact gun control by other means.

Doctors expect soon to begin sequencing the genomes of healthy newborn babies as part of a government-funded research program that could have wide implications for genetic science.

The research, to be conducted at major hospitals around the country, stems from a growing recognition that genome sequencing could someday be part of routine testing done on every baby. Such testing could provide doctors and parents a vast pool of data likely to reveal a wider range of potential medical risks than the traditional heel-prick test, in which a small sample of newborns blood is taken to check for more than two dozen possible conditions.

Genome sequencing of infants also someday could provide people with a genetic blueprint to carry through life. The data could be used years later to help develop personalized medical treatment, such as choosing the most effective asthma medication.

We are entering an era where all of medicine is genomic medicine, says Robert C. Green, a geneticist and researcher at Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston, which is participating in the research program. In the next five to 10 years, as costs come down and interpretation is more established, it will increasingly be to everyones advantage to have sequencing information integrated into their care, he says.

It's about time!:

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder signed a one-year pilot program into law on Friday that tests welfare recipients and applicants suspected of substance abuse.

Those suspected of using drugs will be tested using an empirically validated substance abuse screening tool. If the results come back positive, theyll be referred to a treatment program and will have to continue submitting periodic drug tests. When those tests come back negative, their benefits can be restored. Those who refuse to comply will be suspended from receiving benefits for a six-month period.

It is that special time of year when people all over America sing with cheer, exchange gifts with loved ones, and count their many blessings.

Except here in the federal city this little cradle of liberty called Washington, D.C. we celebrate a little differently. We go on a mad little gun spree shooting one another.

Over the past week, D.C. has seen 15 people shot in at least a dozen different incidents. More than half of them were killed.

All of this is actually really odd, considering that guns are outlawed here. The only way to legally obtain a gun is to take courses that are not offered and submit to background checks that are not made. Then you can purchase a gun from a licensed D.C. gun dealer that does not exist.

The New York State Police confiscated a Navy veterans guns after he received treatment for insomnia at a hospital, according to a new lawsuit.

The police used a mental health database enacted by N.Y.s latest gun control law, the SAFE Act, to declare veteran Donald Montgomery, who is also a former detective, mentally unfit to own firearms based on Montgomerys treatment for sleep deprivation, the lawsuit Montgomery v. Cuomo stated, which names state officials and the hospital as defendants.

The Plaintiff [Montgomery] is a retired law enforcement officer with a distinguished career of more than 30 years, who retired with the rank of Detective Sergeant, the lawsuit said. The Plaintiff had a spotless record and was awarded the departments Bravery Medal; [He] had been a Commanding Officer for 15 years.

The government is now referring to our Social Security checks as a *"Federal Benefit Payment ". *This isn't a benefit. It is our money paid out of our earned income! Not only did we all contribute to Social Security but our employers did too. It totaled 15% of our income before taxes .
If you averaged $30K per year over your working life, that's close to $180,000 Invested in Social Security.

If you calculate the future value of your monthly investment in social security( $375/month, including both you and your employers contributions) at a meager 1% Interest rate compounded monthly, after 40 years of working you'd have more than $1.3+ million dollars saved!

This is your personal investment. Upon retirement, if you took out only 3% per year, you'd receive $39,318 per year, or $3,277 per month.

That's almost three times more than today's average Social Security benefit of $1,230 per month, according to the Social Security Administration. (Google it its a fact).

And your retirement fund would last more than 33 years (until you're 98 if you retire at age 65)! I can only imagine how much better most average-income people could live in retirement if our government had just invested our money in low-risk interest-earning accounts.

Instead, the folks in Washington pulled off a bigger *Ponzi scheme* than Bernie Madoff ever did.

They took our money and used it elsewhere. They forgot (oh yes, they knew) that it was OUR money they were taking. They didn't have a referendum to ask us if we wanted to lend the money to them. John, it sounds a lot like the tyranical government I grew in. Whatever it was you wanted to do, someone would tell you you could not do it. That is not how this country was made. People all over the world flocked to this country looking for the opportunity to work free and develop their ideas: scientists, inventors, common laborers, everyone! "HE" promised change and that we are getting... Soon we will be like the rest of the world.
Once the number of government dependent people reaches a critical point, there is no turning back. Until a few years back, last I heard, Ireland was the only european country still growing in population and capable of breaking the trend. The rest of Europe has negative or no population growth and has reached the point of no return.
The next few years will be critical.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi announced in a closed-door meeting Tuesday she would name the first Muslim lawmaker to the Houses Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
A senior Democratic aide said Rep. André Carson of Indiana would be named in the coming days to the key national security-focused panel. Pelosi (D-Calif.) told lawmakers of the appointment during the members weekly caucus meeting.

Police say they discovered a radioactive device in a car on Kings Highway in Fairfield, Conn.

Police shut down Kings Highway after the discovery, according to NBC Connecticut, and the device was examined by both the State Police Bomb Squad and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

So far police have not released details on how the radioactive device ended up in the car..........................

Attorney General Eric Holder was in Paris for a terrorism summit with French President Hollande, but darted out just before World leaders historically convened to pay their respects to the fallen Charlie Hebdo cartoonists.

Holder then went on a media blitz claiming that there is no credible threat to Americans.

It makes the average American wonder what the Obama Administration is hiding when anyone can go online and discover the clear and present danger of decades-old State Department documents revealing what has been lurking within at least 22 states.

The firearm manufacturer that produced the guns for the movie Taken 3 has said it regrets its work after the films star, Liam Neeson, called the number of guns in America a ****ing disgrace earlier this week.

On Monday, the Batman Begins actor made a series of disparaging remarks towards gun ownership in America when asked about the Paris terror attacks targeting the satirical paper Charlie Hebdo.

There are too many ****ing guns out there, especially in America, Neeson said. I think the population is, like, 320 million? There are over 300 million guns. Privately owned, in America. I think its a ****ing disgrace.
