What the guys on here are telling you is spot on. Most guys that never shot anything but a compound feel they can make the switch and continue to shoot the same poundage and draw length. It just aint gonna happen. A 100# draw weight compound with 80% letoff has got you holding but 20# at full draw, not enough to bunch up you're muscles, allowing you to draw well past a comfortable anchor point. To get that same draw length and weight, you would have to find an 11 # draw weight recurve. The reason is, they are weighed @ 28" and each additional inch of draw adds 3-5#'s of weight. So, 11# draw weight bow, overdrawn 3 inches picks up an additional 9#'s weight, tottalling 20#'s. That of course is pitifully light in draw weight for hunting. I would suggest you get a 30-40# recurve, if you do actually draw that 31 inches with a 30# recurve, you will actually be drawing around 40#, and with that long draw would get outstanding speed ! Stay away from any heavier weight, at least at the start. Get accustomed to anchoring, and all the basics of archery, you can allways move up in weight after getting established. The best thing is, those weight bows are cheap, and plentifull. Get on Ebay and look for, Bear,Wing,Browning,Ben Pearson. A long limbed target bow would be a good choice.
Well. Here is what I have right now after some wood butchering. Made her real long for the first one and not knowing what would fit me. She is 72 tip to tip unstrung. Lol.
Pulls about 40. Got about 50 arrows through her with the paracord string on it. No breaks so far.......
