The kid got a good one tonight. Hunted all on his own, called me and told me he had just shot a nice buck with his recurve. Pretty sure of the shot, 10 yards, slightly quartering to him. Good penetration with a homemade cedar arrow and a sharp Zwickey. Saw the exit wound as the buck ran. Waited a couple hours before trailing him. Sparse blood, but we stayed after it and Drew shined his light ahead and found the nice mature 9 pointer! Traveled about 100 yards...Very proud of the kid. Great son and he is becoming quite the outdoorsman.
Yeah John, he seems to have a knack for bow hunting. Pretty good kid, quiet for the most part, but he absorbs a lot more than I give him credit for. 3 traditional bow killed deer and 2 javelinas, a couple squirrels and a opossum, so he's on his way. Has literally shot one arrow through a friend's compound bow and that is it.
