How about it guys ? You are not required to kill a deer to talk about it .John and I got together this AM for a hunt at the farm. We concur that the bright moon last night hurt the hunting. No sign of deer anywhere.
I had several squirrels come near me and I was tempted to shoot one but figured I would ruin John's and my hunt so I passed. Not 5 min later I heard a "thwack" from John's way and saw a bushytail skitter off. LOL. John can't stand it . LOL. Put him and a squirrel in the same woods and something has to give.
We hunted the farm over pretty good and retired back to my camp for t bone steaks and fried taters. Courtesy of John.
And to top the day , John took delivery of his spankin' new .36 cal flintlock squirrel rifle and proceeded to shoot it some and start sighting it in.
All in all a great day, deer or no deer.

Turned off pretty and warm enough. We made a fire and cowboy cooked while telling li--, uh, Stretching the Truth. Fine Rifle. I'll post some pictures soon.
This is Dennis. Not much to report from me. Just one little one with a gun. I've heard some good reports from others though. I guess their too humble to talk about it.
Tim I remember your fried taters well. I hope John's feeling better. DEN
Been out a bunch with the kids, toting a shotgun. 10 year old daughter killed a button buck last week, can you say tender. 7 year old son hasn't had a chance for a shot, but he did get to see good old dad proceed to miss a big buck about 35 yards away with a 12ga. slug gun! Out of practice, the last three years I was tagged out during bow season. If things don't work out, I'll be back out with my bow trying to get a buck.
Hi, it will be good to catch up with everyone next week at the dinner. In the meantime I had to tell the story of my year. I was fortunate enough to get a doe within the first two hours of my deer season on Oct 1st. I have let lots of deer pass since then because I wanted to wait for a monster. I saw 17 deer last Saturday but no antlers. Needless to say I am still waiting. This is the first year that my 10 year old son Caleb went with me... (if you don't count the one hour last year when he got cold and I had to take him home while everyone else was hunting the opening day of gun season). This has been my best season ever. We spend the first Saturday of gun season in a blind and saw two does stick their heads out but they would not venture out of the thick stuff. We spend a lot of the time having the "that's gross" (his words) "Birds and the Bees" talk. My father who is 76 did get a doe and my son got to do most of the dragging for him. It was a perfect grandfather and father and son day. The next Saturday my son let a buck walk at 30 yards because he could not get a clean shot. At 9:30 we moved to my favorite spot for the 10:00 to 2:00 wait. We had no sooner gotten into the blind when we had a doe at 25 yards blowing because she had heard us talking but did not know where we were. To be on the ground that close to a deer blowing was awesome. My son was a little shocked. "Man they sure are loud" was his comment. She kept at it for a while but a missed shot send her over the hill where she blew for another 15 minutes. At 1:30 here came a 8 pointer. Caleb make a perfect shot and the deer went down within sight. It was great to see him get an 8 pointer for his first deer with a muzzleloader. The end to a second perfect Saturday. I am blessed......
