I'm sure we voted yes on making one of the march shoots a CLASSIC bow shoot. Where we bring our classic bows to shoot such as Bear, Wing, ect. This should be added to the schedule! DEN DEN!! Did you forget to tell DAN DAN?

 and a lot of chrome?

Point being, does it have to be a commercial maker from the 50s? If so, I'll have to borrow one.

If not, I have a nice COPY of a '59 Kodiakbiggrin

I already did. But ok here goes..any recurve or longbow made before 1978. AKA Grayling Bear, Wing archery, weather it be Bob Lee wing, Head ski or AMF.. Old Ben pearsons, Old Brownings, Old Damon howatts, Old Howard Hill Or Wilson Bros Black Widow.. ANY OLD BOW!! Or even a Gainsville Takedown. No one is saying you have to bring one to shoot.. It would just be cool to see alot of old bows! At the last shoot Steve came up with the idea. It sounded good, we voted on it and yea's won!.......Is that good enough?confuse

And that 59 repro is fine..anything is fine..you don't have to bring one. It's just a fun idea..Kinda like a car show. Who don't like to see a 64 1/2 Mustang!

We voted it in but never discussed too many details.

I say it would be best the 2nd march shoot. It might be a little warmer then and would be easier on old fiberglass.

There are a lot of different things we could do that day.We could have a special classic shoot off after the first round.

Maybe someone could bring some old Fred tapes to show in the clubhouse.

We could recognize the oldest bow brought in. Or even the oldest shooter. You can thank me for that later Jimbiggrin

Perhaps you and JR could wear green leotards that day. Or notbleh

Come up with more ideas. We can spread it thru word of mouthwink

Dennis Thats a great idea. I have the entire DVD set of fred movies.. I have a small tv if someone has a dvd player they can bring! Kevin Bishop would have the oldest bow and largest collection if he wants to bring some of it.. J.R. has a nice collection and so do some others.. and remember, Jay is older than Jim. At Hardy lake there was an old guy that came to almost every shoot. His Name was Roy Gibbons. He was in his 80s and was a heck of a shot and a fine gentleman!

No carbon is a good idea. But fred shot aluminum. and Doug Easton made the first aluminum shafts in 1927! But you're right. I dont like carbon anyway!

WHAT ?! NO CARBON  ?! What kinda $&^#@, &*$%  is that ?  furious What 'bout them there ALLUMINEEEEUMS ?  dang, i'd have to scrape around to find some matched woodies, the vintage bows are no problem.

We like to shoot old Bear bows at our March shoot to honour Fred Bears birth month, but all them old bows are cool. I got on a Browning kick this last year, and bought....a few......no

Todd's explanation was perfect (on what would be considered classic). Shoot anything you want. The thought was to find new ways stir up intrest and to promote our club. Kind of like someone said " a classic car show". We do have lots of people add our club who are interested in old archery stuff, so the hope is some of it will be brought to show off......... VINTAGE BOW DAY............

The only reason I used 1978 as a reference is thats when the Bear factory moved from Grayling to Gainsville..But please don't feel like you have to bring a vintage bow to shoot that day! For instance, Jon Talbot is getting a Gainsville red stripe A riser takedown.. Wonderful bow and perfect for that shoot! But bring what you want.. vintage is not a requirement...A new corvette is just as cool as a 55 Chevy!! And Dan That Herters would be great..Some of the fastest production bows made!!

Here's an idea. How about doing it like a car show. We have bow hangers along the back wall. I think we might have one in the trailer also.

Say anyone that wants to can bring a classic bow and enter it. Make an entry fee of a dollar or whatever.

We can hang these bows along the back wall and even up the side wall depending on how many are entered. We could have cards that tell the history, stats, etc about each bow.

We could tape the area off along the walls where no one could handel them. At the end of the row we could have a ballot box and everyone could vote on their favorite. Maybe say you can't vote on your own.

You would get one hook per bow where you could also hang vintage quivers and other things that would make your display better.

Everyone in the club could vote once. Winner gets the entry money at the end of the day.

That would be cool to have a picture of a bunch of vintage bows all hanging together.

I have a 1966 Colt National Match that would probably be the bow to beat. I think though I would have to vote on one of them liitl red Bears. My first bowbiggrin

We could do something like that but some of us would also like to see J.R.'S entire collection on a table..And others have a collection so big they could have their own museum! Not saying they would bring it though! But I would vote for that red Bear..lol

Randy, I just read your post about the brownings and thats right on track with the way I have been thinking lately. Brownings, Ben pearsons, Wings.. Bows like that are the way I'm going ya know? The garage sale bows you get for $40. And proving that they shoot just as good as any new bow out there. I have owned about a hundred bows factory and custom. And the best shooting bow I have ever owned is this little Wing slimline pro and I got it for very little.. Thats really neat that you brought that up!

John,

I think it's March 30, 31 and April 1... they originally had it scheduled a week later, but that was Easter weekend...

Sure haven't... I've only been out once since the "pumpkin army" invaded the woods... took out dad's ML that he deer hunted with one evening... kinda felt guilty

Nothing harmed as the closest was over 100 yards away and that is a bit far for my peep sight... put the sights on one from that distance and it covered 1/2 the deer... I about laughed... was intending to get out this evening and let the time get away from me... the hassle of living an hour from where you hunt...

I stand corrected, the Fred Bear shoot at KTBA is mar 17, looks like you guys have Mar 3, and mar 17 scheduled. Of course  the KyTradFest is Mar 30,31, and April 1.  John, sorry you had to dust off that old, moldy, crumbling, moth eatin' money. jawdrop.gifJust lucky for you they excepted Confederate script, its pretty much worthless every where else.  no
