A boy's first squirrels

Took Jackson out this morning and he scored his first (and second) squirrel kill. Proud boy and GrandpaDSCF0180.jpg

Yep, a combo gun. He thinks he's ready to go after them with the .22 part of it but I told him he needed to get some squirrels under his belt with the shotgun side first. We got into a mess of them in a red oak grove. I think had I been by myself I could have killed at least 5 with a quiet .22 but the boy comes first.

John, they are on the ground and hitting the red oaks hard. You know where the old camper is, that drive that goes up the small hill West of the camper into the field ? Clump of red oaks ? If you stand there or near there you could get some ground shots.

Been there, done that Tim. I imagine your weekends will pretty much be taken with the .410 from now on. Did you use #5 shot? Used to be my choice for the little gun

Well, being the tight ass that I am, I opened up some of those .410 reloads you gave me some time back (the coffee can full), dumped out the 8s and 9s and reloaded with 4s. You give up some on the pellet count but the energy makes up for it. But those won't last long. He's standing up to the short shells just fine for now, may have to move him into the magnums, reloaded with 4 or 5 of course. I have both.

I will look in my "possibles" bag. I may have some more of those.  Oh, and the politically correct term for tight ass  is "Anal Retentive"

later:   I looked.  I have is about 30/40 in another can. I threw them in the truck for next time I see you
