I shot a squirrel this morning about 9 when a doe and twin fawns oozed past. Fairly easy shot, but I didn't want to make orphans this early in the season--sure hope the Red Gods don't hold it against me! Anyway, I'm getting enough-what did you call them?-"Squacks" for pies
Saw a pretty nice buck at about 5 am[caught him in my headlamp starring at me]8 minutes later he trotted off.He was only 15 yds from me off the powerline,1 hour later i made it to my tree.Sat in the dark for awhile then when dawn broke i heard 2 squirrels barking at something[never saw it]. at 9 am saw 2 doe cutting across the top of the saddle i was sitting on [70 yds out] THEN the wind picked up a bit [15 to 20 mph] blowing off the lake[Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr] cold, cold, cold.Got down at 10 am[ had a family function to attend at 1] loaded up my stand and walked up the saddle towards the powerline past where the does had crossed and noticed 7 rubs on the flat at the crest of the saddle, took a few more steps saw a body standing 27 yds to my left and in front of me[froze], it lifted its head for a second then went back to feeding on reds.It was a 14 or 15 inch 9 pt.Ten minutes later he walked away the same direction the does went.Got to the truck 1 hr. later to see4 does feeding on blackoak not 40 yds. from my truck, could have saved myself a long, long, long walk[HUNT THE PARKING LOT DUMMY] That could have been the same buck i saw in the dark,
Saturday morning had a doe come in down wind about 9:30, she kept checking the wind and finally turned back the way she came. Thirty minutes later had 2 does cross the ridge 50 yards below me. About noon I decided to cross over and work down the other side of the ridge. As I started to cross a log road I saw movement and dropped to my knees, a spike stepped out and started walking straight to me. At 30 yards he turned off the road but there was a doe following and they both worked in and out of the trees towards me. The spike ended up to my right at 15 yards and the doe disappeared behind a large stump about 5 yards from me. She walked out broadside and looked right at me, she started to quarter away and as I raised my arm she deciced to check me out and didn't like what she saw so she turned back to the trees and followed the spike back up the ridge.
Saw 2 does today but they were going the other direction at a high rate of speed when I saw them.

I know you think you understand what you think I said, BUT I'm not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant !!
Going after old horse head in the morning,as long as she is running the holler, DENNIS will never get a shot at a deer. She is a old ,big doe, smarter than the average DENNIS Havent heard anything from Dennis or Ron Mc. dont know if they saw anything or got any shots off.
Havent seen or heard any turkey squacking either but will sure knock one off if given the opprotunity.
See alot of squirrels in the holler but i dont shoot at them during deer season,i use them as early warning detectors, usually if they start going off something is coming.
Taking the stallion out in the morning,30yrds. max. going to hunt the intersection of 2 old log roads that the deer use as runs, and escape routes, will set 20 yds off,30ft high. Will definitly be some tricky shooting at that angle.

Awesome evening Saturday night with my kids in the blind, 7 year old Dustin & 5 year old Karissa.
We ended up seeing 5 does, 1 buck, and 3 turkeys. The three hens came into the food plot at about 6pm, my son seems to have a knack for looking in the right direction so he saw them first (he saw everything first). After watching the birds for about 10 minutes the first doe came out of the brush, then Dustin whispered Dad a buck, a good buck, and sure enough a nice but young 8 pointer was working the plot from the North. At one point we had the three turkeys, two does and the buck all spread out in the ½ acre food plot, allot of eyes.
We agreed to try for the buck, K was just okay with that, D wanted him bad, I was sure ready if they were. When he got directly in front of the blind, he faced directly at us and he wasnt nearly what I originally thought, he looked good from the side but he was real narrow, almost straight up like a reindeer Christmas ornament, we all decided to pass and try to take the doe that was following him.
At the moment of truth with a slightly quartering away 15 yd chip shot, K got bothered and didn't want me to kill it, I mentioned something about it being kinda small and she "heard" it was a "baby".
The three of us had a lengthy discussion while the suicidal deer just stood out there eating turnip greens - after a bit, K gave me the okay to shoot.
The doe spooked as I shifted to draw and she moved off to bout 30 yds, I drew and let fly, my lower bow limb hit K's stool and I missed clean. D said she jumped at the sound of the limb hitting the metal stool leg, all I saw was my arrow fly into the brush on the other side of the plot.
Still, even with the miss, it was super cool, the kids did awesome with critters nearby, we got away with murder in both scent & noise. Each of them tipped over their stools at different times trying to peek through the windows of the blind. Just before the action, both had to go out back and pee and I figured I might as well also.
Well Ron saw about nine. Other hunters that is. We singin the public land blues
Billy might do better bein as it's monday, that is assuming that there still some people that go to work in this economy Besides Billy goes way up and back.
One thing we learned, the deer aint where they were last year. Guess I'll climb next time. These southern knobs are a bueatiful place.
Not many we talked to saw any there. We didn't see one Deer all weekend. One young feller that went way back in, said he saw does that still had their summer red coat and the were led by the biggest doe that he ever seen. She was dark as charcoal. He thought to hiself that deer is too old to eat and too big to drag. Hummm... could that be Horse Face
No Deer but Killed a Whistle Pig while hunting hey " Ol man John " are they good 4 Pies !!! Thanks 4 the whistlepig Targets all year Billy Hehehehehe !! !!
I had this one at 15 yds but couldn't decide which spot to shoot at so I let it walk. Besides my wife doesn"t like me shootin through the kitchen door.

Here's proof i"m at least seein deer, most have been like this little guy. his antlers weren't as tall as his ears. His brother got nervous and ran past me so close I could have stuck my foot out and tripped him.
