Wierd Day!!

confuseconfuse

I began to think I'd mixed up my medication this morning. I Woke up early and felt pretty good so I decided to go shoot somewhere. There wasn't anything close, excepting Hawpatch at Hope, IN. If you've never been there, it's 15 stations with 30 targets on about an acre of ground. It only takes 30 min. to shoot.

When I got there, I was the only shooter. The guy running the place was about 40/50 years old with a two-day beard in an engineer's (train driver) hat. He reminded me of "Mumbles" from the old Dick Tracy comic books.

He had a PSE recurve, and wanted to shoot with me.

Fine.

We talked a little bit about his club and how it would be closed soon because of developement behind it, and he told me he usually out-shot everybody in Traditional class at that club and so usually had to shoot alone.........

A couple stations later, I said "How well do you shoot, when you actually have your foot on the stake"?

And of course, his shooting went completely to hell.

A few Stations later we shot a mountain lion target, and I said they were supposed to be good eating.

He told me he had a chance to shoot one once, in NASHVILLE, INDIANA.

I said: " An actual Mountain Lion?"

He; "Yeah"

Me: A Cougar? Puma Concolor? Painter"? "In Nashville, Indiana"?

He: "Yes, It was in a tree waiting for deer. We were over there grouse hunting. My buddy wouldn't let me shoot it because we only had bird shot"

To avoid calling Bull**** on a total stranger, I Changed the subject. "I used to hunt Grouse a lot over around Oolitic. Too bad they are so rare now."

He: "Oh yeah!. We used to see coveys of 30 to 40 grouse all the time"

Me: "Coveys?" "Coveys of Ruffed grouse"?

He: "Sure"

Me: "Actual Ruffed Grouse"? "Bonasa umbellus"? "Gray Partridge"?

He: "Sure"

We Went on to the last target, and he said he was looking for a 64 inch takedown.

Me: "Recurve or longbow"

He: "A Takedown"

Me: "Yeah, I got that, but a recurve or longbow"?

He: Looking at me oddly, " A takedown. Like this" (PSE recurve)

Back at the club house, He tried to get me to join the  club. I said "I thought you said it would be closing soon"?

He: "Oh yeah, it will"

Me: "Well, I can't see booking passage on the Titanic"

I got the odd look from him again.

He: "I think you should join!"

Me:    "Guy, I'm afraid to. There is  obviously an extreme amount of Radon in the ground here that is creating  crazy people!"

"You MIGHT make an arguement that someone's pet cougar got loose, and you happened to see it, but the odds of that are about like winning the lottery. I CAN call bullcrap on the COVEYS OF 30 TO 40 GROUSE."

"You could have seen a brood of 6 or maybe 8 in the most peak of cycles, but Grouse are not a covey bird"

"I do admire a person who is capable of creating his own dream world."

He just gave me that odd look. I was beginning to think it was normal for him.

I quickly left. Coming home, all the truck radio would play was the theme from "Twilight Zone"

Folks, you can't make this stuff up. Where do these people come from? We have a muddy Gene Pool.

I know the type, Hell, I am one ! biggrin  John what "spline"  of  port "oxford" cedar arrows did he shoot? Sure it wasn't a "Black Panther" ? (its allways a black panther.) No bigfoot stories? Aliens?  Did ya have to jumpstart the "Battry" on his truck?  All important questions that need to be answered.

Bottom line, did you outshoot him ?  Even though he had the unfair advantage of a Take Down.

Randy, he shot 2216 lum-nums out of a 50lb recurve. He asked me where he could get some more---"kain't git none roun here."

It was like being in a video game.

John, that's the kind of day when I just want to be home. But.... I think I have at least one of those types of afternoons every time I make a visit to, my home, West (by god) Virginia.

I guess it was all the more strange because it seemed like a parallel universe!.....sort of reminded me what it's like to be knocked out.
