On one of the other sites a member was talking about his success using vanilla as an attractant. I realize there are all kinds of commercial lures and attractants on the market and the majority of the hunters use one type or another but my question is would an off the shelf cooking product be considered the same as a commercial attractant or would the Indiana hunting regulations consider it bait?
I dont rely on these items, but that one curious pause could mean the differance between a shot opportunity and an "almost got a shot" story.
Just curious, Steve H.

Sorry it took me so long to answer. I was sent to Mississippi to help with the mess down there and didn't have time to check the message board. Vanilla would be considered the same as any other scent attractor if used in small amounts. A substance is not considered bait unless the deer consumes it. So I suppose if you put a large enough quantity out so a deer could consume it, then it would be considered bait, but a small amount used for scent purposes would be the same as a apple scent or acorn scent attractor. That would be legal. Hope this helps!
