Selfbow shooters, please read

Jim Cowles is trying to get a selfbow-only shoot going. His idea is for everyone to buy one target. Bring it to the shoot, and set it yourself. Then take it home with you. This would be a "movable feast" Maybe at Brownstown one time, Jackson another, ect. That way everybody doesn't have a long drive all the time. He's still figuring it all out, so give him a call with your input 812-883-9491 biggrin.gif SOUNDS LIKE FUN TO ME

Talked some more to Jim. Here's what he's come up with:

Selfbows, wood arrows only, no sights, no fiberglass
Monthly shoot
Everybody buys and keeps one 3D target. You set it and you pull it
Bring your own refreshments--but, no Booze
Take your own trash out with you when you leave
This is not a club. No Fee, no Insurance, No public notices
Most shoots will be someplace in Hoosier National forrest
Keep your own score if you want, but there are no prizes

Once a year we would have a 2-day camp out and shoot

This is designed to be a gathering like Archers enjoyed in the 1940s/50s

If you're interested, please call Jim at 812-883-9491
When we get enough people interested, he will give you a couple weeks notice (so you can buy your target)

Give him a call, I'm sure that's doable.

Sounds fun. JR has a good idea. I'm thinking that if one had to rely on guys going out and buying $100 targets the attendance might be slight.. I'm sure Cowles will be coming by soon, and we'll talk. I made up a bunch of bags for a friend of mine who was putting on a rendezvous and he filled them with plastic and drew animals with scoring rings on them.

I use $.50 feedbags stuffed with grocery sacks. They work just fine. A painted dot to shoot at, and since no score is kept, rings wouldn't matter. The point of the endeavor is to enjoy some old-timey fun.
