Well, we shot poorly but laughed our asses off! What fun! Stories told, shots missed, more stories told....and arrows lost. Cowles made a bunch of pretty arrows for his Hamblin selfbow. You'll be finding them all summer...........
Always a treat to shoot with Cowles. I told him he'd just lose those fancy arrows. He said he made 3 dozen and that should last him thru the Febuary shoots .LOL

Now that the first shoot is over and done, would like to get some input on how the set was .Would you like more open shots, more mixing of large and small targets, different set locations.Basically need suggestions on how the membership would like to see the course set for the remainder of the year.

Everyone shoots the same targets sound's fair too me ! Had a great time liked target sets it aint about my Arrows dieing of old age even though they look like they should
loved the frog it reminded me of this past summer shooten frogs and fried frog legs but dont think i would like to find one as big as thet target he mite be chewen on my leg insted.
its not that i dont enjoy the groundhog it just always brings back bad memories when my buddy and i hunted for them thats how i always seen them half way out of the hole and every time i would shoot he'd get in the hole before the arrow could get there. them darn thangs!
You Know on Target Sets !!!! OK Gotta step up on Soapbox now !Tuff set's only make you better may tear you down when you miss but really builds cofidence when you make the Shot ! I had a comment made to me yesterday that our club has some of the best shooters around in it - Wonder Why ! I strive for getting better every time i practice Thats my Goal and enjoying the shooting and the stakes for Kids and cubs are always set for better shots for them ! I think Target setter's do a heck of a job if someone dont like em " SHOW UP " And help " SET EM " I dont because of Back and Leg Injurys But dont complain either !! Am sure Billy & the few that do could use Help !!!!!!! Once again The shot's are the SAME for Everyone = FAIR !!! ok stepping off soapbox !! !!
billy you know i always like the hardest shots i can find ,and on our 2nd round me ,nail jim and tim was even picking harder shots to take. but i have had 3 or 4 guys come with me the past couple years that said the course was to hard for them and wont come anymore . really makes no difference to me but i wonder where the club might be in a few years if the sets are to hard for new guys to get involved ? anyway i had a great time. i just wonder how long till im shooting by myself ? since them guys i shoot with are over the hill and gettin close to a hundred ......lol
I think the two Johns make very valid points. Sometimes we forget that we do this all the time and have been doing it a long time. I barely can remember starting out in this sport but one thing I do remember is not having a lot of money and not having a lot of arrows. You take a new guy who just spent $100 on some store bought arrows (not everyone makes their own right off the bat) and he either loses or breaks a third of them the first time around, and you likely have a guy who won't come back.. We really need to step back now and then and try to remember what it's like to be a new guy. Us old farts will make our own "impossible" and "follow the leader " shots on the second time around. The first round needs not to be so rough.

When I started out in muzzleloading lo these many years ago, the first shoot I went to , I asked who the best shot there was. That guy I knew I could learn from. And I became a better shot. Not all people care about such things, they are there just to have some fun. We tend to use the line "it'll make you a better shot " True, but if we scare a new guy away for whatever reason, we likely lose him forever. He'll likely end up going to somewhere like Sand Creek where the targets are out in the open and easy to hit. I'm not saying we should have sets like that, but we must take into account the newer shooters.

I shot Sporting Clays competitively all over the United States, and did pretty well at it. I found that the courses were laid out so that the very best shooters could shoot nearly perfect scores. This let everyone else shoot their average. The real tough courses were set up by F.I.T.A.S.C. and were all about top-level competition. No Newbies or Sunday shooters shot there.
True you can't please everyone. However, we should make an attempt to please as as possible. Trying to stay in the middle of the road as much as possible will do that. Set a Few hard a few easy, and the rest somewhere in between. When we can we should make some new route's,maybe zig zagging through the front part. That's my 2 cents.
This input on ways to improve the sets and course is what has been lacking for last few years.Bits and pieces heard and then get forgotten.
with this input we all can be on the same page and can adjust things as needed. Remember hearing someone last season refer to the course as being Billys course,WRONG,its our course, our club.

For myself liked Sundays course but hafta agree that some newer shooters to Traditonal shooting may be discouraged wth it I know if we @ Fcsc set it that tuff for the Compound shooters they would have fit's and they have sight's & some scopes LOL !! !! And we need to encourage New people to Traditional Shooting !

Billy, Ron, Ron, Dennis and other target setters...
I appreciate all the work you guys do for the club... the countless hours cutting, trimming, setting targets, etc. it's easily forgotten... I for one am too lazy to get up to help set up but I try and stay to help tear down if at all possible...
I think there are some good thoughts being thrown around and appreciate the input from the club members... I really think we have one of the best shoots around...
Going to walk through new course sometime next week to clean and make a few new stations back there. If not to wet and muddy we may shoot the new 1st. half next shoot.Need to open up some of those stations and a couple new ones first.Need at least eight stations back there .
