The only place I remember seeing any was at the club and only at the 2 day shoot... had a big board with them all listed out... I've not seen it for a good while... don't even remember what they were come to think about it...
1st rule is to show up depends on what rule your looking to violate, equipment rules or course rules
Next shoot i will get the rules board out and place them in club house.Equipment rules are set but course rules are a little different this year, only a few changes.
30 targets ,one shot per target[white stake] for adults, youth green, cubs blue.

Hope to see you all on the 15th

Last shoot was the only shoot we had on sunday,it was held sunday because of new years. The rest are on saturday. Then theres the 2day. but its an extended sign in time.
Going to the club sunday to clean a few shots, will take a picture of the rules board and give it to Dennis. There is a few add on rules he will post with.
So according to the rules you have posted, there are 9 distinct classes? (you still indicate a "Primitive" AND a "Selfbow" class) I suppose the Primitive could include Atlatl, Spear, and blowgun
I'm just pointing out that it is not as yet clear.

define mechanical, most rest that ive seen on recurves are not what i would consider mech.i asked for the rules for people who live around me wanting to come down.and if mechanical rest wasnt on the rules dont we have to vote for a change...and no profanity..who supposed to enforce that one...lol

I quess mechanical would be defined as adjustable.[up,down,in or out]NO PROFANITY was added so members and nonmembers would be more aware of language around children, women and those who prefer not to hear certain language, and will ask for short club meeting to discuss rules at next shoot.[should attend.]

Definition of mechanical---- Pertaining to, governed by, or in accordance with, mechanics, or the laws of motion; pertaining to the quantitative relations of force and matter.

I personally shoot off the shelf, but have shot off a plastic flipper when i first started shooting recurve at the club, those wire flippers you referred to,i would not have a problem with so long as their not adjustable in or out or up and down.basically mounted stationary.
i shoot off the shelf as well but i have friends that shoot a nap centerrest, which is a flipper on a bolt pretty much.so i guess a bear or flipper rest are adjustible if you build the plate out..makes for easier gap shooting i guess,my ilf has an adjustable rest but wont shoot it out there.have it set up for ibo recurve aided

HUMMM. That has got me thinkin. Being a poboy I don't have a rest on my bows. Hell I don't even have a shelf for that matter. Could really never afford those luxuries. Any way there are no rules that say how you have to hold your bow. I suppose you could slide your hand up and down as you see fit and no one would know the difference. This might be a very accurate way to get your distance. A lot easier to repeat than counting down your serving, or changing anchors up and down your face. Anyway at some clubs string walking and face walking aren't allowed. I think that if you got your hand in the right position you could use the point of the arrow as a sight. Well not really a sight. You would just place the point exactly where you want to hit.
You would still have to judge distance but with very light arrows it wouldnt be as critical. The rules say wood arrows only but one thing that modern shooters have discovered is that there many different arrow woods around, not just Port Orford. Although when you get down to it wood arrows are not much heavier than some alum or carbs. Especially when you consider cane and other shoot materials like wild rose and viburnam. Their hollow like carbo and already tapered to boot. Chris even made a bunch of golden rod shafts once they were extreamly light and fast, just not very durable.
I think that will greatly improve your up and down shot placement and still be purley instinctive. The only thing to worry about now would be your left and right. I suppose you could wrap different color strings around your bow right in the sight window area that would give you a definate edge that you could move to the left and right to adjust for windage. This would not be considered aiming. Your just adjusting your sight picture for the correct side to side shot. Also if you look in Steve Alleys book Bows and Arrows of the Native Americans you will see many examples of this interesting art work on their bows. Therefore it's not only primative it's also traditional.
I,ve got a better idea than that though When you fletch your arrows, on the top feather you can splice in a few quills that are still full heighth. I'll have to experiment and see weather these need to be on the leading edge or on the back of the feather. Then when you draw, with your bow hand in the correct position you will have these tall quills that you can line up with your point. This would almost serve as a primative peep sight. It would also insure a very exact anchor each and every shot. It would also gurantee perfect left and right alignment. It would also be very traditional and once you got good at this it would all be done on a sub-consious level and still be purley instinctive.
I think this will work out very well I can't let JR outscore me you know
I've just got one question. I noticed the rules say no releases. Being as I'm one 64th Magyar on my mothers side. I'm wondering about thumb rings. Very trad you know.
Dennis, you could use a sinew peep on your arrow fletching and if you had an old toenail, it could be used as a thumbring release--but it would have to be at least 1/64th Magyar toenail.....
building the risor out is ok i quess as long as it is mounted stationary [not adjustable during the course of the shoot] along with rest[not adjustable]. There is surely to be a discussion on whats legal and whats not at saturdays shoot. When i started shooting at the club i was told by several senior members that anything added to risor or string,[as to be used as a sighting aid] was a violation.I would say ask a trad. guru or senior member before strolling through grey areas.
