my girlfriends dad told me he had a 36 year old cut osage that he has had setting awhile...in fact its 8ft and straight im gonna go look at it here in a min.so if it looks ok what do i do next...if its dried that long do i need to worry about bore bees and rot or just get it and stave it out...now we get to start the journey
Steve,I'm back. Osage dosen't rot I don't think. It could be full of beetle damage. They usually don't go too much past the sap wood. Split it out and start draw knifing. You'll have fun getting 36 year old sap wood off
ya glad hes a farmer and not a bowyer that was the most crooked piece of wood i think i have ever seen.....do you know if anyone at friendship who sells staves or has them..it is like 25 30 mins from here
No one that I know of sells any Steve. You should get ahold of Chris Pyle. He had some of the best osage I have seen at ther State Shoot. Dried and ready.

If you want a quick and easy first bow, try Red cedar with a pignut back. Easy to tiller, and they shoot good for a year or so, before they take a set. I used to make one in a day.
