I managed to do some research, and it seems that Wayne county GA, specifically around the town of Jesup is wild hog central. Anybody connected around there?
There are several WMA's down in districts 6 and 7... Wayne county is in district 7...
Here's a link to those districts... you can click on each on and it shows along with maps each WMA... http://www.georgiawildlife.org/huntingmaps_maps.aspx
RC and Landshark160 hunt at Horsecreek a lot that's in district 6... theres a thread on Tradgang of Chris's 2 weeks down there... http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=080569
I've hiked the AT in GA and saw lots of hog sign in different areas and even ran into a sounder of hogs... with a hummer in it on the trail just south of Addis Gap which is in the middle of nowhere... thats the mountain area in north central GA...
Jonathan, that RC guy is who I meant. I confused him with Apex Predator who I believe is from Brunswick. RC is from Baxley.
Let's set a date. I am in ME until 2-2-2010, but don't mind me.
God bless,
José
PS I turkey hunted around the AT in upper east TN when I lived there about 25-30 years ago. Things are different now. I don't know if one could hunt close to the AT now with all the liberal thinking these days.
That's up around where I was born... my dad carried me all over those hills squirrel hunting in a pack basket when I was little... some beautiful country...
Did you end up buying either of those bows? Just curious...
I was born in Elizabethton in the late 60's... My dad pastored a small church in the area and went to school at Milligan College to get a secondary teaching degree... My brother also graduated from there back in 92 or 93...
Send me a PM with your email and I'll send you some pics of the mite... the special is going to need to be refinished... someone has snake skins on it at some time and when they took them off it took the finish off in places...
You don't want what I have to sell right now: Morrison sleeve t/d that I bought for the NH moose hunt, but since they dropped the weight requirement to 50# I don't need it now. It is 67#@27", way too heavy for both of us.
Let's keep on banging on the GA trip. The only openings left at Ray's were the weekend of the KY Klassic. If I am not in ME I am going to the Klassic this year.
I am waiting for a response from Landshark160. Look at his post on TG in the thread about the kills from this past hunting season. This guy is a HUNTER: 4-5 pigs and same number of deer. He hunted 3 WMA's of which 2 of them are within a short driving distance and the third one is less than 2 hours away. It looks like a good deal.
I'll be ready!! Hope to make the next shoot. John, just old age (lol) I had to have some bone spurs removed, something called a mumford done and my tendon reanchored to my shoulder blade. Rehab is going very well and I'm alot further along, than the doc thought I would be

Boys, here is the response I got from Landshark160:
"Jose, The rivers are way up right now, and have been for nearly 3 months. Everything is messed up. But going by what I saw back in the summer, Bullard Creek is poor for hogs.
Horse Creek was really good last spring, but the river came up in April and pushed most of the pigs out. When the water dropped, the pigs never moved back in. There were a few there back in October, but not a lot.
Right across the river is Flat Tub WMA. It's right down the road from the Paradise club. There were a good many hogs there back in the summer.
Ocmulgee WMA, near Hawkinsville, looked really good when I was there back in Sept./Oct.
Down closer to the coast is Altamaha WMA. It's flooded right now, but if the rivers fall out, it could be on fire with hogs. Year before last, I saw around 60 hogs and had 4 stalks in one morning there.
When are you planning on coming down? If the rivers fall out so I can do some hunting, I'll try to keep you updated on what I find."
Horse Creek and Bullard Creek are about 12 hours from my house. Ocmulgee is about 10 hours and Altamaha is probably 12 hours away.
Boys, if it keeps raining this much down south we will not have to go down there: the pigs are going to have to move up north and we can hunt them up here.
We will see what Landshark160 has to say after he goes out and explore those WMA's.
God bless,
José

Nothing. I believe they are still flooded. It has been raining/snowing non stop for the last 2 months or so. One of the nurse anesthetists in Maine is from GA and he went down to hunt ducks. He belongs to a lease in the Savannah area. He told me it was all flooded down there, he was there 2 weeks ago, and they have had more rain/snow since he came back.
I found this place in TX. The owner seems to be a trad hunter by looking at the pictures:

Check it out.
We can always go down to FL: littlelakelodge.net has had good reviews. Close to Orlando.
John, I talked to Bob Hayes today. We talked about everything except price. They are located about 1 1/2 hours from Orlando. They have stands or you can wander around and spot and stalk. Will see what their prices are.
John The meat hogs are $170 per hog and trophys are $295 per hog, both are skinned and quartered for you.You can use a gun or bow or we have guns here to use at no charge.Let me know if you have anymore questions.
If any of you think of going to the TBOF shoot one could get a hog hunt in GA/northern FL at the same time. Food for thought.
God bless,
José
Last year at TBOF, I saw one roadkill, and one that had been dragged out by hunters on the side of the road in the national forest nearby the shoot. They are around there, but not sure if you could get on one in that mess. Its palmetto so thick it would be real rough to get through. I'd like to try though. I'm sure some of the local boys at the shoot could point you in the right direction. Greg Dudley at TBOF would probably be helpfull, seemed like a reallly nice guy.
