Guys, To start out with I sure wish I could have made more shoots this year, but my new postition just doesn't leave time. I was going to make this week's shoot until I realized it was last Saturday!! I hope to be at the Sept. shoot though.
Enough chit chat, down to what I need. I purchased an old bow today for my daughter. I was talking to a guy the other day who's father-in-law just died and left him a bunch of guns, ammo, wood-working equipment, and one old bow. He asked if I knew anyone who would be interested. I told him I would be since Olivia has outgrown her old bow. I wanted something around 35#. He didn't know anything about it, but thought 37 @ 28 was on it. I figured a 37# bow, right? Just what I needed. So I told him I would be interested in it for her. He didn't know what brand it was, so I figured it was one of those run of the mill old Bear, Pearson, etc. His father-in -law used it for target shooting in the 70's. Well, I met with him today and wouldn't you know it, it was an early Black Widow bow. It's 68", 37#@28". I am assuming the model is a 101 since that is on it. Serial # 12218. Guys, the thing is in mint condition, not a mark on it. Beautiful white limbs. Olivia fell in love with it as soon as she saw it. It is signed by the Wilson Bros. in Springfield, MO. Now I'm no expert, but I know this bow is worth more than what I paid for it, but I don't know what it is worth. Can any of you avid bow collectors give me a ballpark figure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I can get a new string and rest for it soon, she'll be shooting it on the 19th. That is if basketball doesn't get in her way. Thanks for any help.

You can open some of the data bases on the right hand side of the web page and do some research, or email them with the serial number and a couple pictures. Off hand, i would guess $200 to $300 if it's in absolutely original condition and "minty"

I knew someone would ask. I paid $100 for it. I would have had to pay more if he had wanted more. That was more than I had planned on paying for a bow for her since she'll outgrow it in a year, but I made the mistake of taking Olivia with me. She just had to give me that look little girls give their dad's and it was sold. Thank goodness I got off fairly inexpensive!!!

John, I just heard back from Black Widow today. The bow was shipped out on April 30, 1965. Evidently, Ken Beck started the serial numbers over again when he purchased the company from the Wilson Brothers. This bow was made by the Wilson brothers as marked on the bow. Actually it says custom made by them. I couldn't find any reference to the model 101 on the few websites I checked. But a friend of mine that knows a guy who collects widows priced it at over $900. But you know how that goes. A bow is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, so I guess this one is only worth $100. It don't matter, Olivia loves it. I've got a new string and rest on order from 3-Rivers. She'll be shooting it by the weekend, I hope.
