It was nice to see you all. After spending a long, cooold winter in Maine I was ready for some shooting. I missed all the spring shoots including the KY Klassic. I was glad to see all of you are looking good and doing well. I really enjoyed shooting with Dennis, John and a pleasant young man that was shooting for the first time at the club. I can see why John misses some of the shoots, he misses because of the pretty "missus" he's got.
We need to plan a hunt wherever. Northern GA is not that far. We could hunt in the national forest there. That should not run into much money. SC in the winter should be good too at Ray Hammond's place.
Dale, do you know when TBOF shoot will be next year? I'd love to go to that one.

PS I hated to leave early, but I had not seen my son-in-law for almost a year and he was in Louisville for a few days.
One of the guys that used to come to the KTBA shoots went one year, going after hogs. Did not see hogs or bears, but did see sign to confirm they are there. I was invited to go, but he wanted to go in AUGUST !!! Georgia in august did not intrest me much. I was eager for nov-mar, but he claimed the deer hunting activity would drive them to nocturnal habits by then. I just worried about spoiled meat if you were lucky that time of year, and I guess a little bit about spoiled me. I'm not a big hotweather fan. He claimed it was not bad, due to some higher elevations where he was hunting, but i'm not so sure there is enough elevation for comfy weather in Georgia, some of you guys may prove me wrong though.
I am with you Randy. The only way I'd go to GA in august is because I have to.
By february/march hogs should be back to normal I'd imagine. Hunting in the fall before gun season should be OK too. I have to check gun season in GA, I know is a looong one. Not 2-3 weeks like ours.
Driving time from Maysville to the eastern border of the Cohutta Wilderness is about 6 hours. Not bad.

There you have it boys. Cohutta should be in the Northern Zone. We could hunt feb/mar. Archery only season is sept 12 - oct 9. One could hunt the week of oct 10-16.
I think I read somewhere that to hunt hogs in Ga. you have to have a small game liscence and something has to be in season. If you hunt pigs during their deer season you have to have deer tags. I don't rermember for sure. It sounds a lot like our BSF pig hunt from a few years ago. Speaking of which, I'd go again especially if John is in my cabin to cook breakfast Either one it sounds like there won't be many hogs killed. You never know though till you try.
Dennis, I made a quick pass over the regs and I did not see anything about having to have tags for the prey in season. What they do say is that you can only hunt them with the weapon that is legal for the game in season. It just happens that a bow is legal to hunt any game, big and small. You can hunt hogs any time. $50 for a 3-day non resident permit (it was $30 the last time I went). Sooo, dates anyone? Pitted or non-pitted? It don't no never mind to me... or something like that as that cute little thing said on the TV commercial
Dennis, before venturing back to BSF we should go to Red River Gorge here in KY. I know there are pigs and goats in that part of the state. Finding them is another thing, but it will make for a good walk in pretty country. Before we do that we need to kill a few squirrels so John can make his now famous squirrel pot pie recipe. I don't reckon he'd mind cooking breakfast either.

I found a website called Georgia Outdoor News. Go to a search thingy and type it in. They have forums that you can go to. One of them is hog hunting. Some interesting stuff. DEN
John, as soon as I get the schedule for the rest of the year we can make plans to go to Cohutta. Will get the 3day license and hunt pigs/squirrels, etc. After jan. 15 will be the best time. It will get us out of 7-10 days of our winter. We could go early fall to the Red River Gorge and walk around with bow in hand and if we find pigs/goats fine... if not, it is a beautiful place!
