I have the S550 and have been pretty happy with it. I got it last summer. It takes pretty good pics and the camera has some cool photo correction options, but it doesn't come with any photo editing software for your computer.
I checked the specs on that camera. Two things I did not like:
- It uses rechargeable batteries. It says that you can get 250 shots with one charge. I like cameras that use AA batteries that you can find anywhere and take spare with you. Those rechargeable batteries cost close to $40 each.
- It does not have a viewfinder. I take pictures the old fashion way: by looking through the viewfinder, but using the screen is the rage now.
One good camera that is selling real cheap because it is an old model is the Cannon A590. It sells for $109 on Amazon. It uses AA batteries, including AA rechargeables, and it has a manual setting for when you want to do it all and bypass the camera automaticity.
thanks for the info. I have a Fuji A205 now that I like, but it EATS batteries. I can put two fresh AAs in it and they will be dead in two weeks. I called Fuji, but they don't want to hear it. According to the reviews, this is pretty common. I'm not a photographer, but would like to have one in my pocket when I hunt, ect.
That little camera fits in your pocket. You can take it anywhere.
First thing you do is to turn the screen off. You can also turn the review feature off also. All that does is bring the picture you just take un on to the screen. At least that is what I do with mine and the batteries last longer.
If weather allows I may see you at the shoot saturday.
Stay healthy.
God bless,
Jose
PS I also have an old Fuji, older than yours. Recently I bought the Cannon A1000IS, I believe that is the model. It is newer than the A590, it uses AA batteries and it has a viewfinder, but it does not have a manual mode. I did not do my home work before I bought it. When I found out that the A590 had manual setting I liked to kill myself because the A1000 does not have it. Oh well...
That exactly is my beef with digital cameras. My old Nikon SLR's are all manual, no batteries needed, simple cameras. For exposure I use an old meter that also works with no batteries. I do not need to go through 10 screens to select a "mode", "white balance", etc.
Do like I do, set it on auto and shoot away.
I will buy a scanner that can scan photos/slides as well as documents. Then I will go back to my old SLR's to take pictures and scan the photos that I will use for emailing, sell equipment, etc.
I guess I am a "traditional" photographer.
God bless,
Jose
