in a word, yes. But the dowels won't be 3/8th. They will vary a lot, and be out of round.
You'd be better off to make a tapering fence for a belt sander. I would pick through them to get the straightest ones also.

Cat, get a bunch of ramins from John. Or the store. Bring them down and we'll run them through my dowell-o-matic. It slices and dices and turns out perfect tree rat arrows everytime. DEN

Well all we can do is run some and see how they do. Ramin and ash work good. Doug fir tends to splinter. Let me know if you wanna try.

what spine are you looking for? I have several ramin turned down already, they just need a LOT of sanding.

No spine tester, but if you leave your arrows about 40" long it compensates for any differences in spine.idea

John,
Look up the plans online for the 2 jays spine tester. I built one and it is very accurate. We tested it against Jim McGowans store bought one and it is dead nuts. Takes a little fiddlin to get it right but it is a nice tool. Holler at me if you need any help with it, I can give you some pointers I learned from mine.

I have nothing that light! You would need 5/16th hardwood dowels to get there.
