I had just returned home with a successful harvest of a button buck with my muzzleloader. Our two older boys Caleb (9) and Joshua (7) were thrilled when they returned to the house after checking out the deer. Caleb tried to coax my wife out to take a look. "No", my wife replied,"I don't enjoy looking at dead deer. Caleb asked "Why not?" My wife replied "I feel sorry for them and wouldn't want anyone to shoot me." Jedidiah, our 3 year old, came over to try and reassure her by saying "But they won't shoot you Mom, Daddy loves you......."
Guess I have a little teaching to do. I need to teach him that I love deer too, just in a different way....
Funny, what's the saying? "Kids say the darnedest things"
Will she eat venison?
My wife's feeling is that it seems OK to shoot the inferior deer, but we should let the kings of the woods walk, so far I haven't had any trouble staying within her guidelines.
