Show Report

We had a good time at the Strader show. Ronald bought a 25# takedown recurve for $50.00. Watch out he's on his way backbiggrin

There were outfitters for every kind of hunt that you can think of. The one that sounded good to me was the phesant hunt located at Mitchell Ind. I asked him if they had bowhunts and he said that they didn't hunt deer, just birds. I explained to him how we were a bunch of trad hunters that would love to shoot at birds. The minium price is $70.00 for up to four birds. He said it sounded like fun. He has several different fields and said we could probably fit about five in a field

The only other highlite was seeing James with a beer in one hand, and a icecream cone in the otherbleh

John should know. I would think blunts or bird points would be safer.

I used to shoot Sporting clays there, and have hunted quail, ect with him. It's a big place and would be ideal for a bow Pheasant hunt.

Yea, I think the half day phesant hunt is $70.  The cost for dog rental is $30 per gun but im not sure if we would need a dog. I think we probably would. They might cut us a deal if were using sticks instead of guns. Im sure the sporting clays will be another 20 or 25. So if we carpool and everyone saves up $150 dollars, I would imagine we would all go home with money in our pockets. Maybe a few phesants to boot.biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Let me run this past you guys. John Nail would know best, but why not find a place to buy the birds, buy 'em, set 'em out someplace like our farm (we have some good cover fields) and hunt'em all day ? Game frams are OK but they really cater to guns. You buy 12 birds from them they set them out and then you flush them. They won't let a bunch of guys tie their fields up all day. They are used to 12 birds out, flush and shoot. A 12 bird gun hunt last maybe 1/2 day if you loafe some. They won't like flushing birds over and over again. They are in it for the money asnd I don't begrudge that but I think we could do a hunt of our own much better. There has to be some place nearby that sells birds. Bet John knows.

pariscrossing bird farm sells them i'm pretty sure. but i was wondering why you would want to keep flushing them ? why not just shoot them the first time up???biggrin hell i will just bring my crow call and we won't have to buy anything,i'm sure all of you have eaten crow a few times...lol

That is actually a really good idea. The birds are kind of expensive, but the money we would save in gas alone would more then pay for everyone to get several shots. I like the idea of not being limited by time also. Who knows, if we get enough birds, by the next weekend we might be able to have a cyote hunt.biggrinbiggrin

Better still, lets turn them loose in Johns barn and shoot at them.biggrin I don't think that would be legal Tim. If it was I would think you would at least have to do it during phesant season. That guy at mitchell is a perserve. Thats why he's open till march.
Now if you know where there's some feral chickens, that's differentbiggrin
Seventy dollars aint too bad considering the fun, but I don't belive anyone would get their money's worth in birds.
Hawk, check around at Indy for anything interesting.

its a shame that squirrell season does not start  May 22 like it does in missouri.  Anybody have a farm that has a few rabbit's on it?  Maybe we can hunt that. I dont think they are in season either.
