Ok, I got the hots go bowhunt. Let's go someplace and group hunt for something. How about Texas Hogs? Sheep/Goats on the Pecos River? Anybody got any ideas?
Lets shoot for March/April.
Any takers?
Here's one possibility: Now available for booking- The Pecos River Ranch North of Langtry, Texas in March and April only. This is the ranch where we held Texas Sweat last year. You will be hunting multiple species of sheep and goats. All game is ferel and wild. There are also a limited number of javelina and hogs available to hunt as well, not to mention the outstanding bowfishing in the Pecos River which runs through camp. For more information and hunt pricing you can contact Gary Kellar, a represenative of 7Th Age Bowhunting. His email address is- gkellar@dbstech.com
how much will something like that cost? i'd love to hunt some where but will have to keep it under $1000 for everything including transportation. i was wanting to go on the leaterwall hog hunt at Shiloh Ranch but missed out . it was only $300 and if you have a group of 5 to 7 you get the whole ranch all to your self.
John, Jose', Dennis, and I did Shiloh a couple years ago. Plenty of hogs. I'd go there again. Ask Dennis how he managed to miss an entire hog at 10 feet.
Boys, I've been saving $$ for such an adventure. My problem is time. Spring is really tough for me. That time of year is smack in the middle of our "season". What kind of time allowance would a Shiloh hunt entail ? ie: how many days off work?

This is Dennis. Shiloh is a nice place with great hosts. I'm sure their booked a year in advance unless you want to go in the heat of summer. Enough people need to go to book the whole ranch. The drive is long, and you have to go through St.Louis. You have to be there at noon, so that means an all night drive. We drove thru two tornados on the way down, and I looked out the window and saw a cow fly past All in all though a great time with plenty of game sighted.
Catfish, I've always heard hogs had a shield you had to watch out for, but I think mine also had a force field DEN
http://www.bowhunthogs.com/ well lets book a hog hunt for next year, and find something else for this year? maybe a couple of you can get us a senior citizen disscount by then
Would you guys mind a newbie hog hunter going with you? I might could make that hunt for next spring, if you have room. Please keep me posted! Thanks, Bryan

This would be a "do it yourself" hunt. No promise of seeing squat, but very cheap. We'd have to camp out. Take a look at the PDF link enclosed for a Texas hunt.
I will email Shiloh to see what's going on there.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/media/pwd_bk_w7000_0112a_702.pdf This is a copy I sent some fellow tradgangers in Canada who are coming down in 09. This will give you something to start thinking about. The feral hog season should be the same for '09. This is about 20 miles from my home and is rough beautiful country. I know the bioligist there and will confirm the 09 season dates soon. You will probably not see any other hunters here at all , particularly during the week. I also have acess to private land, but I doubt it's any better. $48.00 management license, 45.00 5 day non res and 7.00 archery permit http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/wma/find_a_wma/list/?id=15
Another possibility: http://southhillsranch.com/Boars/boar.htm
These are all just suggestions. When we get some people who will definately go, we can decide and send our deposits. As of right now, it just seems like John, Bryan, and me? I don't imagine Jose' has seen this yet, because he'll probably go.
Here's a file I got from Curtiss Kellar about the Pecos river hunt. Also, Shiloh has an opening in May of this year, I don't know what dates yet. Jose' is working until May and can't go. You guys let me know what you want to hunt, and i'll try to research it a little better. Steve, we'd be glad to have you along. The more the better on this type of Adventure.
Thank you for your inquiry and for your interest in hunting with 7th Age Bowhunting.
Hunting on our Pecos Place property is an experience of a lifetime. With its extremely remote, rocky, mountainous terrain and abundance of wildlife, it offers the hunter a challenge seldom found anywhere in Texas.
From the beauty of the historic Pecos River valley to the heights of the Davis Mountain foothills of West Texas, this property is a hunters paradise. Enjoy exploring ancient Indian cave dwellings located along the edges of the steep cliffs, bowfishing along the shorelines of the crystal clear Pecos River for Carp and Gar or just kicking-back around a campfire with your hunting buddies while you tell the tales of the days experience. There will be times that you forget that you came to hunt you will be so involved in enjoying the scenery and ambiance of the location.
Principle targets for the able hunter are Goats and Sheep of five different species, including; Boer, Spanish, Angora, Barbado and Mouflon. Other, small game, commonly taken on the Ranch include; porcupine, ground squirrels, badger, skunk, raccoon, and squirrels. There have been javelina taken, but they, along with wild hog, are fairly rare.
Lodging on the Ranch is provided in a rustic two-bedroom, eight-bunk house overlooking the Pecos River with full kitchen and a single bath with shower. Included are a refrigerator/freezer, microwave, stove/oven and all cooking utensils. Additional bunking for four can be provided for larger groups.
Cost: $175.00 per day per person with a minimum of five (5) people for three (3) days. Meals can be provided for an additional $25.00 per person per day. Kill fees apply on some game based on species and size.
This property is located approximately 100 miles west of Del Rio, Texas and is 30 miles off the closest paved road. Your transportation should be capable of traveling some very rough gravel road and 4wd is certainly recommended. As mentioned earlier, this is some very rough country and hunters should be in excellent condition to fully enjoy all it has to offer.
Shiloh has a three day hunt open June 2/3/4 that's a Monday/Wed hunt $295 We'd leave either Saturday and take two days out, or Early on Sunday and drive through(as I remember it's about 12 hours) We need 5 people to get the place to ourselves (or 5 deposits) These hunts are from noon on monday through noon on Wed. The $295 includes crude lodging. You would furnish your own food and supplies. They have stands set up all over the place, but I prefer to still-hunt. I have seen a couple of big hogs there, but most are 50/80 lbs "eaters". WITH THIS HUNT, WE WOULD NEED TO BOOK ASAP, since they go very fast.
anything works for me,but could tim and Jose' go if we waited till june??? dennis ,not hearing anything out of you? and i don't think you filled you frezzer with venison this year????? you like goat or pork? lol
I'm still thinking. I might have to sit this one out. The Pecos hunt would be great, but first I'd make sure these Goats and sheep are good to eat. My buddy Earl killed some kind of weird goat in Tenn. a few years back and they said the meat wasn't fit to eat on that breed. I also noticed that he says that the hunts are for able hunters in excellent shape. I'd be finding out what exactly is a Texas foothill
Shiloh is a good place to hunt. When does Richard hunt there? The fence there doesn't make a difference.DEN
richard goes in sept. i think . you still thinking or waiting on momma to say it's ok......lol my wife knows nothing of my plans yet , not sure she will even know i'm gone if it's only a week.
KIP from Tradgang PMed me and said he'd like to go with us, if we don't get enough guys. He's from Louisiana, so we'd either pick him up someplace or meet him.
That would be too close to Friendship for me to go.Hard enough taking off a week for down there, let alone the week before too. If you guys go, shoot one for me. As I said earlier, I'm saving money for an adventure, so if anything starts to form for a hunt this Fall late or late Winter 09, or early Spring 09, I'd sure entertain the thought.

John, What's the total cost estimate for the hunt you are planning in June? Are you talking June of this year, or 2009? I unlike Tim have not been saving for an adventure(LOL), so before I can commit to a hunt this year I need to know about how much money I will need. I may have to start bringing more stuff to the shoots for Steve to buy!LOL! Bryan

i'm in on Shiloh and maybe the goat hunt to...lol maybe have to make and sell a bunch of knives but i think i could come up with enough to do both. only thing i wouldn't have much time off to deer hunt. damn i hate work.....lol
Bryan: The hunt will cost you $295. That includes lodging (it is a bunkhouse, so you need your own sleeping bag.) You would pay your fair share of gas money out and back, and buy your own food. A pretty cheap hunt. If you wanted to drive, we'd pay the gas. shiloh has a couple of big freezers, so if you made a kill, you'd freeze the meat, and put it in a cooler for the trip back.
Boys, like Mr. Nail said I am working up north, south of the border, until may. I'd love to do the TX Pecos River hunt, but I can't this year. We should think about going next year and book it. I remember the story and pictures that Littlefeather (Curtis Kellar) had on Tradgang. I've been wanting to hunt that place since.
You can put me in for Shiloh in june. Like Mr. Nail said (I am calling you Mr. Nail to separate you from the other John [French]) Shiloh is a good place. It is even better if we can have the place to ourselves and still hunt instead of sitting on a stand.
Mr. French, I don't know who told you that I am turning 60 in july, but that does not make me a senior citizen yet!
OK. We need 5 people to commit. So far, it's Steve, Jose' John French, I think Bryan, and me. That's enough to get the place to ourselves. EVERYONE MENTIONED, PLEASE POST A DEFINATE RESPONSE, then I'll call Matt Draper, and we will need to send our 50% deposits. You would make your checks out to Shiloh, and send them to me. I would mail them together.
