Went out friday morning and about 8:30 had a nice 8-pointer come from behind me to the left only to stop behind a tree. When he didn't see anything in the field he turned and walked to the tall grass. I tried to grunt and bleat but he either couldn't hear me over the wind or just wasn't interested. Half hour later another nice 8-pointer entered the field 100 yards across from me. He followed the path I mowed around the field and came up to my left at about 40 yards. I stopped him twice with a mouth bleat but when he didn't see anything he just kept moving. Twenty minitues latter a small 5-point comes directly under my stand, checks a limb above an old scrape and turns quartered away........... 5 yards from my tree.............I let him walk. Didn't see anything the rest of the morning.
Went back out to a different stand down by the creek. Everything was quiet till about 5 pm when I saw something working along the ridge over on my neighbor. I watched for a few minitues till I noticed it was a buck. I gave a couple of mouth bleats and he started walking my way. He crossed the fence and came up behind me, it was the 5-pointer from that morning, he was looking hard for the doe making the bleat. I bleated one more time and he walked up behind me to the right, then started to walk away. I bleated one more time and he circled around a brush pile and crossed to the trail in front of me, walking past me he stopped with his head behind a tree about 18 yards. Since gun season was to start the next morning I decided to go ahead and take the shot. I pulled up, drew back, released.........he stepped back from the tree. My shot was high and I hit him in the base of the neck, he dropped like a rock. I saw him kick and knew my shot was fatal but not quick so I climbed down from my stand, knocked another arrow and from about 3 yards put it thru both lungs.
Though this is not a story of a great shot at least it wasn't a wounded animal left in the woods.
The picture is not good but my camera went dead after that. Hope to hear from the rest of you guys soon.

I shot a very good buck at about 20 yards from the ground. The arrow Hit a horseweed and went too far back(through the last rib) it's a long story, but 5 hours later, the trail gave out. lost deer. the second one in almost 30 years. I consider my tag filled- I killed the deer, just didn't get to eat it. Gave me indigestion, too!
This is Dennis. Went out Sat. morning and liked to froze in that wind. Sat in my buddys ladder stand all morning and didn't see anything. It didn't sound like the gun hunters were doing much better. I was about to get down about 11: and suddenly see two bucks over in the woods crossing away from me. I reached in and grabbed my grunt call and gave a toot ( for some reason that thing always reminds me of Ronald ). The deer stopped and looked my way for a few minutes, and his next step was in my direction. When they got closer I saw they were both nice bucks. When the front deer got to the edge of the bean field I got ready to shoot. He was only 15yds away. Suddenly I heard a strange clicking noise, and right as I was ready to shoot BLAAMM. No my bow didn't blow up I was using my damn slug gun. He didn't go far. His buddy just stood there looking. I sat there about fifteen minutes waiting for him to leave cause I wasn't gonna get down after murding his pal. Then I looked out in the field and saw two does. Another click blam and I was done. Ten point 189# and a button buck about 60 or so... DEN
Steve - Drop those pic's down to about 600 pixels wide in the future
Big CONGRATS to both Steve and Dennis!
Where are your pic's Dennis? I won't believe it until I see it. 2 deer? Really - Now that had to be some work getting them both dressed and dragged out.
To boot, with this board, I don't have to get them on the website as often, you've probably noticed my lack of attention in that arena
