I have these two weeks off to deer hunt, but the buggers are moving in the dark! Corn is still in the fields, and deer still in the corn. Opening morning a big doe came in behind me in the dark, and this morning I was 12 yards form an eater and it was too dark to pick a spot. Hunting on the ground, of course. Been seeing and shooting plenty squirrels though. Hope you've all done well.
out last 3 morning ,but not seen a thing (deer) . hunted my favorite spot today and started smelling something awful. when i got down i went to investigate and found a dead doe about 60 yards away. i did have a big ole tom come by yesterday but was just out of range. i think i will wait for cooler weather. i need to scout the refuge a bit anyway. but thats also what i said monday and i keep waking up in a stand each morning......lol good luck all john f
my stand with the dead deer close by is only 1/2 mile from refuge. JOHN if it helps your mojo any my buddy shot a really big buck on 10/3 around 5:45 pm . 11points, 21 in spread. i would say it will go 150 or 160 in. he also shot a doe 10 min befor he got the buck. i have pics of it on my phone but don't know if i can transfer them to here or not. just remember a bad day in the woods is better than a good day at work john f
Oh Yeah! I ain't bitchin' I just love to be out there. Too lazy to drag one anyway. I have seen a lot of coyotes during the day. Getting a little bold for my taste. Are they in season yet?
John, Just thought I'd jump in here and clear up the coyote season. Although there is still a season in the hunting guide for coyotes a person can take them year 'round under one of two critieria. The first is being the landowner of course, the second is with written permission from the landowner. I hate to see anyone miss an opportunity to kill a coyote, so have at it. Good luck!
Andy
