i looked at some big osage logs today , atleast 18" and 8 to 10 ft long. is this to big? wood was real straight and didn't look knotted . but has alot of big checks in ends . he cut it in spring and has been lying on ground . i think i can get 2 logs for around $100. should i do it or look for something smaller?
i also got to try my new bow out today , scored 276 out of 440 . not the best but i sure looked good trying....
This is Me. Your gonna need a bunch of wedges. Judging logs can be difficult. The end checks probably don't go too far. You only need around 7' or so. Have the ends trimmed back and see how far they go. Seal afterward. Spliting is fun, but not so much when it's 98deg. outside. Look at the logs and see if there's a bow in there. If you see a bow that will make others stop and look, win shoots, and take deer, then get them. You need some more wood, that's for sure. Have Tim look at them. The wood talks to us.
well i gave the guy $200 for 4 logs . and i do mean logs. i don't even know how i'm going to move them now! they are super straight with no visable knots. maybe get some pics of them this wk end
