This is Dennis. Friday evening I set up at a place where the corner of a corn field and the corner of the woods come together. Sort of like an hour glass. I was only 10yds inside the woods and my sent was blowing right into the corner of the corn. A perfect setup to catch the deer coming in for an evening meal. On both sides of the hour glass were mostly dry beans. I knew any thing comming in would come right through that corner. A large oak tree had blown down and the root ball provided perfect cover. Any thing from the woods would have to come around either side of the root ball and would give me a quarter away shot at about 4ft. Anything walking either wood line would give me a shot at about 10-12yds before they got directly downwind. Well guess what the goffy deer were already in the corn. Throughout the evening eight does came out ofthe corn field about 35 or 40yds on both sides of me. They knew the corner was occupied so they cut through the beans and went on down through the woods. Finally late about dusk I heard one finally heading up through the woods. He was gonna come right around the rootball and I didn't care what size it was, I was gonna shoot. I was trying to controal my adrenlin and get ready for the shot. He was getting close now. I turned and brought up my bow. Through a space between the exposed roots I could catch a glimps of what was starting to get really close. Um whats black and white. I held my breath for 5min while a beady eyed skunk fooled around by my feet. I thought it's gonna be a long ride home for my brother who came down from Mich. to hunt with me. After a while it was getting pretty dark and I was afraid to leave because I didn't know just where that skunk went. My brother was on the other side of the corn field and was supposed to meet me right in the corner at dark. I thought I'm gonna stay right here untill he shows up and makes shure the coast is clear. Wait that would make a long ride home in MY Truck. I slipped out and Mr Stripe was nowhere to be found. This time the deer won. LATER DEN
Nothing like an exciting day in the woods Dennis. I suppose I got to my spot too late, two does, I think does, jumped from their bed as I arrived, saw nothing but tree rats the rest of the morning.
