Wife and I went down to Pickett State Park over the weekend. Rented one of the Chalets like Dave McKnight had. Actually very nice and the wife liked it so it must be good.Got it for 39 bucks per night too !!
Hiked a bunch in the park and BSF. Took her to see the Twin Arches and then we hiked the Slave Falls loop. No pig sign but they did have a great mast crop last year, much like we did . Saw turkey, squirrels and a skunk so there is some wildlife there. The obligatory crowd of yuppies were there and maybe that's why you see no hogs. Just too much human traffic. I'm thinking the area of BSF much deeper in would be the better bet.
One thing we missed while we were there (the hunters last year) was the "Hazard Cave " trail in Pickett. We drove past it every day and did not know it was there. Only a quarter mile off the highway, it's the largest rock house I ever saw.Much worth the effort. We hiked several miles of trails in Pickett too.
BTW they have a new WalMart super duper center at Jamestown out by the 4 lane. Grand Opening this weekend- the locals were walking around like they were in Disney World.

The canoe area is east of where we were, on the Cumberland River(South Fork). It is a pretty rough part of the river. My barber who does whitewater rafting, kayaking and canoeing goes there a lot.Matter of fact he was there the same time we were across the BSF.Parts of it are tame though, plenty easy for a good paddler.Wish I had my canoe back. Lost it in the "war" some years back.My brother in law has a Mad River that will likley be for sale soon, and I hope to buy it.
