Making my own camo has been on my to-do list for a few years now. I think modern camo is designed for the human eye instead of an animals. Its very detailed and looks great in the store. When you see someone wearing that same camo outfit in the woods from a short distance away they look like a dark green blob. I checked out several patterns and styles and the ASAT camo was a style that broke up a hunters outline better than realtree or the other brands. Its just brown and black curving stripes on a light background. I thought I could do something like that myself. I bought some cheap clothes off of ebay. I got the shirt and pants for $20 including shipping. I already had some dye but I did buy 2 bottles for a couple of bucks each. So my total investment was around $25. I got the clothes big enough that I can ad some layers on underneath. If it works good I might try it on some insulated clothes for colder weather.
I used some cheap paint brushes with a couple of the colors. They worked better than the foam brushes.
The front
I ran thin on dye for the back. It isn't as dark as the front.
The shirt was lighter than the pants. I might try to find a darker shirt.
Most of our stands are in trees like this with limbs breaking up our outline. I think it will work out OK. These pictures are from 15 yards away.
