Need some advice... my boy that used to shoot with me when he was little and has dropped out got to throw a hawk at a Sr. Retreat this past week... he loved it...
Where's a good place to get a hawk... I know absolutely nothing about this, but have always been intrigued...
Don't want to break the bank as it may just be a passing fad for him... but would love to find something "outside" we could do together again...
throwing hawks are cheap.....like $20 or so. Get one with a long handle, and you can saw it off to suit your balance. Get an extra handle with it. Friendship will be in a couple weeks and there will be hundreds there, or go to trackofthewolf.com and pay shipping
I ordered a couple to give it a run... now I have to figure out a backstop/target for the backyard... We had a fellow down the street that had one in the backyard... but I think he moved...

PS How's the squirrel hunting going? I wanted to get out last week... but alas work gets in the way yet again... the temps were sure nice in the mornings... now back to the scheduled heat...
Most of us use a slab of Pine. Hawks/knives don't do that well in hard wood. You can probably get a cut of it at the club.
Squirrel HUNTIng is fine. Squirrel SHOOTing not so much. I've got 13 in the freezer, and we've eaten a bunch. I never saw an old, wrinkled man (Cowles) eat as much as when we had Squirrel stir-fry! He and Jim Egland consumed about a gallon of it and two softball sized tomatoes between them
Now that sounds like a good idea... plenty of it laying around out there...
Man, that stir fry sounds awesome... may have to give that a try... the pot pie is on the agenda for this fall too... just have to figure out how to get it past the wife She's not too keen on cooking squirrel...
