Micrometer

Anybody have one... I can't find mine in all my boxes that still need to be unpacked...  Trying to measure a roundball for my squirrel rifle...

I keep thinking dad told me it was .340 and use a .010 or 015 patch... but it's been so long since I shot it... before he passed which will be 10 years this month... thought about taking it squirrel hunting and realized I was getting low on ammo...

Many thanks for any help!

Jonathan

Jon, you might bring the gun too. .340 is an odd caliber. I'd better guess that it could be a .36 caliber gun and he used a .340 ball with a heavy patch, but that would still be a sloppy load. I think John has some balls for his .36, maybe he could bring a couple. If it turns out it is a .36 a .350 RB (which he has) and a .015 patch would be best. Does the barrel have any barrel company names or logo on it ? Like Green Mountain, Green River, Getz, Douglas or ? No company I ever knew of made a 34 cal barrel. That's not to say some independent maker could have made it.

I'll plan on doing that as well Tim... Dad made this when I was in middle school and like a fool didn't pay close enough attention, etc.

Green Mountain is ringing a bell... If I remember right... It was supposed to be a .36 cal... But wasn't exact or something... Again, I should have listened better...

Maybe some words of wisdom for the the young 'uns amoung us...

My "Flinch-rock" was made by Tim. It is a fine rifle gun.

i know that the .36 balls for a revolver are lager than the .36 balls for a rifle. forget the actual measurements though. any reputable gun shop should know

I'll bring a bag with me with powder , caps etc. If I can load it, we'll have to shoot it out.
