If you kept record of the scores, and simply added the top ten, the "Best of best" wouldn't require a shoot-off. It would encourage attendance--at least from the top shooters, and it would be a reason to shoot your best at all times.
here is a trophy I like a lot. I received several of these for clay target shooting:
I know that in the past all scores have been kept and still are. How to determine it has been consider by looking at our "top shooter" from many angles! Such as: total of all scores, totals of a limited number of shoots (allowing for a person to miss 1 or 2 shoots), average score of all shoots, having two awards 1 for top shooter and 1 for "best of the best". Every time it was talked about in the past we have came back to the "best of the best" shoot off. I know many club members shoot hard to make that top ten. With the quality of our shooters that is and accomplishment itself.
I am not trying to speak for the officers on our current view but just give insight to past discussions. I know most of the people that have won the award are proud to be the best shooters in our club in a head to head duel. (On any given Saturday) IMHO .
