fuud

One of my favorite subjects.

Anyway weve been working on our lunches for this year. Suzie who has done such a good job for quite a while has had her work schedule change and will no longer be able to help as much.

In the past we've had only hotdogs and chips. Had volunteers bring stuff etc. Ronald even fryed a turkey one time.bleh It has been a lot of work and the responsibility mostly falls on the Presidents shoulders.

We might have a better solution.

I just talked to a group in Scottsburg that has a resturant called A Place To Be. It is a non profit organization that tries to raise money to help local familys and people. They do wonderful work for the community and we've always tried to support local places up there when we can.

I told them about our shoots and they said they would like to cater our lunches this year. Everything included even the plates and napkins. We will still provide the drinks like usual.

You can go to their Facebook page and look around.I told them that we just like simple food that don't cost a lot and they said they can work with that. I told them we have a hard time knowing exactly how many are gonna show up and they said that they have familys that they can give leftovers to.

What kinds of food does everyone want and what would be a fair price for a lunch at the shoots.

Dennis, just burgers, dogs and chips would be fine. If we want them to bring extra sides, slaw and baked beans always go good.. Maybe every once in a while they could do bean soup and cornbread. I will bring my usual famous roast to the first shoot.

I'm thinking, when it's cold , Chili , soups , stew . Hamburgers and or Hot Dogs.  Bar-B- Q ,  on occasion. Even Plate lunches if they are reasonably priced.

Quite frankly I don't see it working. John was joking but is close to the truth of it. We are sort of frugal(cheap) people. The reason it has worked the way it has is it was decent food for cheap. You bring in an outsider and they have to work at a profit. Yes they may do it a few times but when they see they are going broke, they'll not come back. You don't need a big variety. A soup each shoot would be fine.I'd volunteer for a couple of them myself. And if no one makes anything for a shoot so be it. Put out the word here the week before and guys can pack their lunch. Ain't no big deal.I can't be at the first shoot (our muzzleloading Christmas Party was rescheduled due to weather) but will bring something the second shoot in January if you want.

Just buy a variety of lunchmeat and chips, with soft drinks. The stuff will keep, and if a guy wants better, he can go downtown. The having to cook part is what keeps a full meal from happening.
Maybe those non-profit folks could deliver meal(s) to those who call? Point being, if the club spends X amount of money, and there are leftovers, we've wasted currency. Either way it doesn't matter to me. Just my feeble thoughts on the subject.

WE could make a better decision, if we knew what they would charge for a meal

we go the easy route, buy hot dogs in packs and freeze, open and dump in what you feel you will need for the day in a crockpot that morning, and they are warm by lunch, go light, and if more show up you can boil more , if not they keep good in the freezer until the next shoot. not really any cooking involved. Im not a big consuer of hot dogs, but can choke one down to ward off starvation. We have one club memeber thgat keeps suggesting burgers, but no one wants to grill em, takes time out from shooting.

noGood comments so far. Keep them coming.

Trad archers are a unique bunch. Always striving for lofty goals. Working hard to improve. Giving, with no guarantee of payback. That's reflected in our members and officers and the way the club  has grown.

When I started  going to shoots up there a very few had saved the club from folding. Things were Spartan at best but they had plans for better things.

The club has weathered a few storms both figuratively and literally. We've grown.

Lunch up there has always been part of the whole experience. A small bit of reward after the cold, the rain, and the sweat.

You read old stories about guys stump shooting and stopping to brew a cup of tea. It's all part of the life.

Anyway do we really want a lunch that has to be chocked down? How many crockpots to feed 50? Who wants to cook and clean instead of shoot? You can leave and go to town and eat trash for $1.99.no

Someone told me that we make a couple thousand off food every year but I don't think the math works out right.

We have to talk to this food group and see what all of the particulars are but they said we don't have to spend any club money up front. They probably get all their stuff donated any way so if they sell $1.00 worth it is money ahead. Go look at their facebook and see what they can cook.

They said they would work with us as far as prices go. They said we can suggest what food we want. They actually usually work on a donation basis but that might be even more expensive for the good souls in the ITBA.

I looked at their Facebook page and they do have some good looking victuals. If they want to give it a go and test the market, I'm fine with it. A couple big pans of lasagna and some bread would go a long way to feeding our brood.

3rd, I'm the biggest tight wad there is, but the way I see it, it would be cheaper for me to buy a meal there than it is to drive to Arby's and drop $15 feeding the kid and myself. No joke, 3 RB sandwiches, medium fries and 2 drinks! If we can eat at the club for $5 a person, I'd buy.
