I just ordered a "rescue link 406" personal locator beacon. It is a much higher quality item than the "Spot" that cabela's sells. About $275, but no annual fee. Costs about $150 every 5 years for the lithium battery.............Folks, I would have given $10,000 for one when I was crawling through the beans.

my trac fone costed $10 and $100 buys a years service and a thousand minutes. I do hunt alott of places with no service, but usually a hilltop will get ya these days. Damn cell towers are everywhere. We even had service way back in deep in the rockies, if up on the tops.

no cell service....even when I got to the truck. With no legs, how are you going to the hill top? Don't trust your life to a cheap-ass cell phone!
good idea on the locater john!! I have the spot for emergencies . accidents do happen though!! good thing u wer reasonably close to civilation! im thinkin u n pops need to stay in the flat woods a hover round might come n handy too!!

Thats a very good idea. Where did you find that product? We all pay attention to safety at work but go brain dead when at home. Do you think a sattelite phone would of helped when you had your accident? Old or Young, none of us is bullet proof
