Well, I made it back. I stalked to within 35 yards of a 170 class buck, but his harem blew my chances. Saw another buck in the 160 class, but no luck. I passed on a legal broken horn buck, and shot this 6 pointer on the 4th day.
Great hunt, but it was extremely dry out there. Paul chose to make blinds and sit at water holes, and he saw a lot of deer, but got no shots.
These are Dessert Mulies. They run about 20% smaller than the Rocky Mt. Variety.
This one was good enough for me!
PS: FLYING IS A MAJOR PAIN! You have to take your shoes off to clear security, they rifle through your baggage, and there are delays everywhere. If I ever go on another hunt like this, I will drive.
Good going ol' man Nail. You'll eat venison after all this year.Glad you made it back OK and that you had fun.

This will turn you on: This is a "primative only" area. They have a 5 day Muzzleloader season. No Scope sights or Inlines-roundball only. I'd be willing to go----hint?
Private land hunting. There is some public hunting on ElCapitan mountain, but the Mulies are down in the dessert. Bear and Cougar up there, though!
There was one area of this ranch the cats were using and I sat that the last day after filling my tag. (the picture, is about 6000 feet, ElCapitan in the distance)
The chances were extremely slim of getting a shot, but I just hoped to see one. There are some cat hunters with dogs in that area. The tag for them is $200. A hunt for them would definately be possible.
They have free roaming Auodad and Oryx that have escaped from those Millionaire Texas ranches and migrated North. The Auodad are waaaay up high, and the Oryx are a little South of Tinnie on the plains. Both would be long range rifle stuff.
Good deal on the muile! Did you ever decide on your moose trip that you posted on tradgang? I'd be interested in hearing how much $ something like that costs. A trad moose hunt would be the ultimate for me.
