newbie right here

All right boys. Here I am.

I talked with Dan some tonight on the phoneand he suggested I post on here some to get to know you all.

I been wanting to switch from compound for years, but have never taken the time to switch. But now is the time.

I got an old ben pearson recurve. Old like 20+ years old that I bow fish with and plink around the yard with some flu flu here and there,

The bow I have doesnt fit me well since my draw is 31+. So I been itchin to get a different bow (long bow) that I can learn with.

I plan on making the first shoot with what I got right now. But was wondering if anybody has anything that they have for sale that they could bring for me to try. Or maybe get together before if you have some time. get the ball rolling early.

I live in Lanesville. Willing to do what ever to get this thing rolling.

So what ya thinking

Chris, welcome to the group. Most all of us get a terrific amount of satisfaction from this sport and the friendships we have found. As far as bows, you will have no problem finding a bow in this group. Steve

Welcome Chris. Thanks for the plug JR. However, you will most likely want to start out a lot cheaper. Any of us will be glad to give any help we can. Most of us take great pride in any accomplishments with Traditional equipment, plus it is a lot more laid back. Just have fun.

With that long of a draw length you may need a custom made bow, and a long one at that. You might get by with a cheap target bow, if it is long.

does anybody have a bow similar to what I'm asking for

That is a long draw length. That's gonna make selfbows a challenge.

I would assume that any of the longish glass bows would draw to 31"

Where do you anchor at? What draw length was your compound? What was the length of your arrows?

How tall are you? Does your wingspan match that or are you really one of those monkey arm guys? (Hey, you said it first!)

I'm 6'-3" and drew 31" on a compound, and that was with a release - but a trad bow was a whole different deal.

I'm the average 28" draw with my longbow.

My brother is selling a 58" Jim Reynolds Thunderstick, 52# @ 28" - Might or might not work for you, but like I said, don't get in a hurry, try some bows - you'll find one that suits ya (then you'll want another biggrin )

My compound goes to 30 and j had to tie a long loop just to get it comfortable.
I prob cut about an inch off of my arrows on this bow too. Sonim guessing I'm at 31 easy.

Anchor point???? Good question cuz j can't really get back far enough to know with the recurve j have now.

On my bow fishing bow I anchor my pointer finger in the corner of my mouth. One over two. I also play around with 3 under at times. Bow fishing bow is an onieda. Love those things.

I'm just trying to find a bow to start playing with that fits me. Preferably before the shoots start. Willing to meet up where ever to check out any that are for sale now. Usually don't deer hunt much after gun goes out and its too cold to bow fish........son its time to learn this primitive thing.

Looking forward to meeting you guys. All the threads j have read so far show it appears to be a good group.

So who has a bow for a monkey arm new guy? I got to scratch this itch. Lol

I think Dan has it right. All you know about your draw etc concerning a compound needs to be thrown out. I'll bet you shoot the compound "straight" armed and you usually don't shoot trad tackle that way , especially longbows.A Samick would be a great entry level bow for you. Go to Lancaster Archery .Com and type in Samick and have a look. But by all means get to the first shoot and try different bows.

Chris, I have a 50# PSE longbow and my son has one of the 35# Samicks. We can bring those along to the shoot on the 5th. Neither of them are expensive bows but we've had a lot of fun and success shooting them. Good entry level longbows in my opinion. You would be welcome to give them a whirl.

Now hang on here Ol' Coon. Seems I have a contract that says I get first right of refusal on any of your bows . I'll be contacting my barrister, James Cowels Esq. to start litigation.
