Sunday-3 fox and 2 grays.Still in pignut hickory, hard to fix on 1 squirrel at a time, there must have been 20 of those suckers grinding at the same time.Way up in nose bleed section of tree, shot all this evening.22
I'm headed to KY's newest WMA (Veteran's Memorial in Scott County) in the AM. Not hell bent on killing squirrels, more of a deer scouting trip, so I'm taking my Crooked stck longbow, and a backquiver full of mismatch and flu flu's. I figure i need the longbow practice more than I need the squirrel meat. Squirrel is a sorry substitute for venison in my book, but i'll utilize any if i do get lucky. Possibly some pics tommorrow!
Revisited squirrel hunting 3 years ago while scouting late season deer haunts for the next season, trying to figure out what made it and locating new core areas. This year ive mostly scouted for food sources such as white oak and red oak, havent seen much of white but the red is producing small nuts ,from what ive found on the ground from birds. This is just the area i hunt close ,there may be better sign at different locations, next foray will be Orange co. to see whats there.DEER,SQUIRREL,RABBIT,QUAIL,GROUSE,COON,TURTLE,FROG,FISH,DOVE are all different flavors, different hunts, different ways to harvest. With the price of gas being what it is, when i hit the woods, harvesting offsets the cost, plus they all TASTE good.

i found 3 beech with nuts this morning, theres also several hickory beside them.Shot 2 grays out of the beech and 3 fox out of the hickory-410.After the first shot i had to sit for about 5 minutes before they started to move again, then it was fast and furious shooting with the old single shot, shot 6 times for 5 squirrels.Saw several more walking out, when they saw me they hit the ground and ran[4 grays] Heard 5 or 6 barking.DRY,DRY,DRY.Got held up for about 15 min. half way out ,watched 4 bucks drinking from a water hole in the creek bed in RONs hunting area,he and Dennis know where im talking about.2 looked to be pretty nice racks the other 2 looked small but still had decent head gear[look big with velvet on]Got back to the truck and saw 3 deer cross the road and into Kagys stunted corn field.[1 momma doe and 2 fawns]Pretty good morning, started at 8 and out at 10.15. Skeeters not to bad where im at ,its those damn little gnats that like to buzz your ears and eyes that aggravate me.

There is a gray squirrel in Borden that will be having nightmares tonight about a flu flu zipping past his head today. Haven't hit one yet but I kinda feel bad about giving all of these bushy tails PTSD!! There was no lack of mosquitos out this morning, thought they were going to carry me off!
