I MUST BE OFF!

On my way. Out of Dodge. Driftin' so to speak.

The Aussies call it "going on walkabout" (I'm too old and lazy to walk)

I've done this before and learned a lot from it.

Time to mount the Metal Horse and as Mr. Greeley said: "Go West, young man"

The plan--always subject to revision--is to see New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona. Maybe ride the Rockies South to North, then hook back to Wisconsin and back South.

I plan to be gone a month or so, but who knows? It sort of depends on the weather. I'll be looking for a place to den-up when I get back, so keep me in mind when you see an empty shack while out driving.

I'll post the odd picture here, if you want, since the modern world has wi-fi.

Meanwhile, have an enjoyable Easter, and "Via con Dios, Mi Amigos"!

Greetings from North Jawga. I camped last night in Cumberland st. pk. in Tennessee and it was COLD! I have pictures of frost on the windshield.
Mountains are beautiful with all the dogwoods in bloom. Havn't seen the first deer?
Pictures to follow when I get a few--too cold to photograph.

That's the area we go to every year. Apalatch is the big town. It's got a Piggly Wiggly.

St George Island is the place to stay. Some would say there's nothing to do there. The fishing is great.wink

Keep em comming John.

$1500.00 a week waterfront palaceblankstare

The place is very redneck friendly. Even the Yuppies are friendly there.

Last year my neighbors on one side was a family named DelGato. I told Mr. Delgato about my job and he told me he was an industrialistconfuse

The folks on the otherside was a crazy Irishman. I forget his name. He owned welding companys in Georgia. I told him I like to weld too. He said he dont weld anymore. He has pepole run his businessesfor him.

He said about all he does now is rescue Dachshunds, drink Guiness and walk on the beachesbiggrin

He showed me his gunshot scars from when he lived in Ireland. He said he belonged to a group kinda like the Boy Scouts and the British Army shot him.ashamed

I told him my family came from Whales and he said he wouldn't hold it against me cause he could tell I loved Dachshunds too.biggrinbiggrin

From what you just said, I think you'd fit right in.....but I'm amazed you'd spend $1500 for anything.

Now holed up in Gatesville, tx...the wind can't decide if it wants to be a tornado or not. Literally too gusty to safely ride. Broke my budget and bought a cheap motel!blehconfuse Dennis, can you send $$$?

The tree in one of these pics has rough, shaggy bark like a cedar, but wide leaves? I don't know what it is. The other is about 4 feet tall. Odd also.

had the entire place to myself. homochatta, ms

the seat of knowlege

an odd tree? you can see the leaves and the shaggy bark

this thing was a little over 4 feet tall

John, that looks like some kind of weird gulf butternut.

Have you seen any squirrels.

Looks like your gonna have to hook around or outrun some weather.

I figure another three weeks, depending on new mexico. I plan to spend the night in roswell tomorrow......maybe find me a little willing gray alien woman....

Todd, have you found me a house yet?

Oddly, of all the places I've seen on this trip, I liked Live Oak, FL the best

rode through a pretty good rain and then awful wind to lubbock, tx. all oil fields and windmills. Terrible dust storms--so bad you couldn't see the road. I took a picture, but of course, it didn't come out. I'm staying in a motel again, because the wind is too strong to put a tent up!
