randy. links to bowsite won't work.

Have you decided on a hunt yet? I'm leaning toward hitting the Alabama shoot in Feb, and then on down to TBOF and then maybe swine.

Not 100% John. I have a "Grampa-in-law" that has a condo in Naples, He just got back from a 2 week getaway there and located a guy that has several farms there to hunt. Also have been thinking about that Ray Hammonds guy in South Carolina. He does Traditional archery only hunts, and every body raves about him. I still want to dig more on the Tarponut guy in south Georgia, just need to talk to him. Still looking.

Here is the E-mail I just sent Tarponut:

James,

I was planning to attend the TBOF shoot at silver Springs,FL on March 2-4, than possibly hog hunt on Monday thru wed Mar 5-7. Me and at least two others have been looking into three different areas to hunt, one being you. I just needed some more details of what you have as far as a place to camp, are these guided hunt? Do you use dogs? I have contacted you once, and understand its $125 per day, or $300 for three days, we would def do the three days, and the cost is acceptable providing we have free camping. is there restaraunts or groceries nearby? What type clothes/gear do we need? There is a possibility 3-4 more would come, How many can you accomodate at once?

I'd like a contact ph# so we could talk and get the details and directions. My ph # is 859-748-6200, but I work swing shift and am often hard to catch.

Looking forward to hearing from you sooon so we can nail this down and make plans.

Thanks,

Randy Grider

Any of you guys that are considering doing this with me, let me know at rkgrider62@yahoo.com. I know John Nail is intrested, and I have another friend that is as well. He has a condo in Naples and may have a spot there to hunt. It is agricultural land, where Tarponut's is pine plantations. Of course the Naples hunt is a lot farther drive, but still very doable. We need to cement our plans soon, so send me e-mails for whomevere is intrested.
Thanks,
Randy

Randy, I'd be very interested in learning more about the hunting around Naples. This is where I am now, well down in Miami actually visiting my parents. I will go back to Naples tomorrow to get my wife who is flying down. Our youngest daughter lives in Naples and we come down to visit her and the kids 2-3 times a year and the wife says she will be down here for good in another 2 years.

God bless,

José

I cant get a response from the guy in Georgia, he is not returning my e-mails, about to give up on him. Would you be up to traveling all the way to the Naples area? My buddy should be here tonight, and i'll see what he has come up with. I would like to camp the whole trip, just to save money, but could motel it if you want. Camping requires a good sized vehicle to carry us and gear. My truck hauls alot of everything but people. (reg cab F-250) Mif wifes truck hauls 4 guys but has a tiny bed. Not sure if Danny has a bigger truck or not. If we can get a place to hunt solid, those other details can be worked out. I really would like tio hunt with you and ol Jose. Any other takers?

well............the term "drive" puts me off. If I'm ridin', maybe........if I'm drivin' then probably not

Maybe we need to plan waaaay ahead for a Texas hunt this fall? Jose' might even go, if you give him enough notice.....he's a mighty "Impotent man"evileye

South Texas brush country has a lot of Javalina and rabbits (and fleas)

I sure used to catch a lot of BIG snook South of Naples around Chokoloskee. I saw a young native mosquito kill a full grown coon down there one night............

I can honestly say in the last 3 years I have went to Florida (In March) bugs were not a problem. Of course I stayed out of the swamps..., but wait, All of FL is swamp right? So are you up to that drive?

John, i would be all about that ! I would prefer late winter (after deer season) though. I left KY to elk hunt in sept. but only because its the thats when you have to hunt elk. Late winter I would think would be a lot better weather there too.

OK, just got in touch with Danny Howard. He said the cost at this place near Naples is $350 per day per hunter .For this you can take 2 "meat" hogs, or one trophy. An additional hog would be another $100. So theoretically you could take 3 hogs for $450. Apparently he has a lot of hogs as he pretty much gurranteed shots.I expect he probably has corn feeders, not my favorite way to hunt, but i'm sure he would let a fellow spot and stalk. He did not want us going in before daylight as he has been having some bear problems! He was going to accomodate 4 hunters at this price. Being how John, and Jose are the only two that have shown intrest, they get first option. If one of you two are not intrested someone else can step in.
Heres the icing on the cake, Danny has offered to put us up in his condo! This thing is NICE ! 3 bedroom, great room, kitchen, screened porch on a lake. I stayed there on vacation last year, and never vacationed in such luxury. I expected he was leaning this way but I did not want to offer that untill he did, well, he has.
If we drive straight to the shoot, we could camp there, or cheap motel, i'm good either way. Motel would require far less gear to haul. and we could probably all squeeze in one vehicle, reducing gas cost enough to rent rooms during the shoot. We may not be able to hunt before tuesday, or maybe even wednesday, Danny is arranging that. We could do some bowfishing or whatever waiting on our day to hunt.
I'm sure $1,000 in cash will get you through this week in Florida with plenty of change left over. I plan on being reimbursed at least some of my money in hog meat. Shoot a trophy if you want, I'd rather have some good meat.
Next we need to arrange the driving. If we all go in the same vehicle we need either a big SUV or 4 door pickup, which I do not have. If someone wants to provide the vehicle I'm sure the other three could split the gas to compensate the driver wear and tear.
Let me know what you want to do, lets get this nailed down and planned.
Randy

John, great find! I like what I see. If nothing else, I'd love to take a dip in the river and eat at the Mexican place. A stop at the brewery sounds like a must. I don't drink bottled/canned beer, but do love the local brews.  smile

When are we leaving? As long it is not the 3rd weekend of the month I can make it.

God bless,

José

I'm not having much luck with my hog hunt, nobody is talkin'. My buddy is in Las Vegas right now, so I have not heard from him. I 'spect he has some show girls rapped around him right now and not thinking about hogs.

I would pass on the $350/day hunt. Been there, done that, and still have the hat.
I would do the Tejas hunt, if we can work it so Jose' can go. Would have to be Mid to late March for me. I plan to hit the 'bama shoot and tbof.

 Jose

Try Osceola outfitters in Saint cloud. It would be North east of Naples, I just got back from there last week and 6 hunters killed 22 hogs 17 with stickbows. I know he is pretty well booked in Feb & March. I think he may have some openings in May. One of the guys I was with said he had hunted with you before his name is Casto real nice guy. Most of the hunting is from baited stands or with dogs but I did mostly spot &  stalk.

Jim, thanks. I will give them a call and see. If not in May maybe later in the fall.

Jim Casto is a good guy. He hunts there every year. He comes down with a bunch of guys from WV. Good bunch. I went to NF to hunt moose with Jim few years back. We had a ball!

God bless,

José
