OK, Dennis is talking food, so another topic. Anyone out there using a jerky shooter or gun of some sort ? I've got a bunch of venison trimmings I need to work on. I do not like ground venison other than chili, so I need to make some jerky. I've done the cut up, sliced kind of jerky many times but the ground jerky sounds good too. Also any good marinade recipes ? BTW, I have a dehydrator.

I used the Walmart cheapo for 3 years or so, but it would slip and slip and frustrate the crap out of me...
went with one from BassPro that does the same thing just a lot better... I used prepackaged jerky seasoning from Walmart... so no help there... I did find that combining meat and seasoning the night before and letting it sit in the fridge overnight helped "saturate" the meat...
I like the ground jerky better than other... doesn't get stuck in my teeth as bad...
I got one from Bass Pro and like it alot. I used the seasonings from Bass Pro and agree with Jon it's best to mix and let set overnight. I use the round nozzle instead of the flat and like it better. It is alot easier to mix up the ground meat than to cut up all the strips in my opinion.

Well, I figure at least Cowles could eat it that way.

An update. I found and ordered a meat grinder this past week. After reading numerous reviews online I bought the Kitchener Grinder from Northern Tools. It was on sale and had 34 reviews written on it, all but one 5 star. (turns out the one bad reviewer-- he had his cutter on backwards,LOL). Anyway, looking forward to using it. One of the sausage stuffing tubes is small enough to squirt out meat sticks for the smoker and dryer. Darn thing also came with a "kubbe" attachment. Makes a hollow tube like lamb meat /pastry used in Middle Eastern cooking. Not into lamb but I could see a tube of pastry dough, packed with ground venison, potatos, rice and spices, and deep fried. Mmmm.
