That is the old settlers farm at the information center on the NC side of the Great Smoky Mtns, just outside of Cherokee. These are part of the free ranging heard, they were grazing in an open field next to the road. The lady at the info center said they reintroduced elk to the area in 2001, the orange tag in the ear indicates he was from one of the early releases. There were nine cows and calves with this bull, one of the cows had a collar.
Cars were lined up on the road with people taking pictures.
It sure would be nice Dale! I have been through there several times and seen the Elk crossing sign.. But have never seen any Elk. Maybe this time! Hay Dale, at one time you had a henry Golden Boy you got from Dave I believe.. Do you still have it? Or at least I think it was you that had it, I may be wrong!
